Some suggestions: Frys is a range of meat free products - the Schnitzels and nuggets are awesome.
Quinoa- has complete amino acid profile.
Cliffs Builders bars
Kidney beans
Refried beans
Nut butters throw them in your protein shake along with a teaspoon or two of chia seeds (needs to be blended though)
Coconut flour is suprisingly high in protein
Ground flaxseed
Tescos sell an omega seed sprinkle good protein content

Lentils-Merchant Gourmet's puy lentils cooked in veg stock with some dried rosemary
Poppadums-you can microwave the uncooked type with no added oil-20-30 secs in micro.

Av just started having 3 egg whites whisked into a ma rang then add one scoop of protein and whisk again, it makes an awesome pancake batter, and has around 60g of protein in, stack them up wi porridge in between wi treacle on top, awesome

I get concerned about animal welfare too.

One of my workarounds is relying on stuff that would otherwise be wasted, as in offal. And eating much more red meat & fish than chicken.

I think cows & sheep get treated pretty well in this country.

Beef hearts and chicken liver are your friend. Independent butchers sell it but only when there is a demand, otherwise it gets skipped or turned into pet food.

Egg whites (you can get liquid ones quite cheap and they don't need to be cooked either)
Protein powder (soya makes a good variation too)
Tinned tuna
Milk (still quite cheap - if you can tolerate lactose it's good, especially at night)

Ive found the following to be good, and i'll suggest where they can be used in a meal for some quick ideas. As a student im always looking for quick meals that can be done without much washing up. I have sampled all of these and found them nice.

Tuna ~25g protein - Tuna w/ mayo, chopped pepper + cucumber
Egg (free range) - Omelette with your choice of filling
Greek yoghurt 150g ~15g protein (whilst not extremely high in protein, can be used with other protein foods) - Greek yoghurt w/ strawbs, nuts (also protein)
Cottage cheese 1cup ~25g protein- Have it on a baked potato, its surprisingly nice.

You can marinade tuna with fruit juices and its surprisingly tasty, not sure about how blending it up will make it taste- maybe just to aid digestion as a liquid meal. The fruit juice will provide vitamin c and sugars as well as lowering cortisol (which inhibits insulin) which suggests it may be good post-workout.

This: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/marinated-tuna-steak/

is a very nice tuna meal which uses orange juice, which I followed but the tuna can get a little dry sometimes. Bit too much prep for my liking though. And too many ingredients for a student to bother with Embarassed
