I think this is probably inevitable anyway, as I doubt she will have stopped growing yet, and maybe not by 2012. She will almost definately be up a weight catagory by then anyay, so I dont see the harm in letting her move up in weight and have to lift more to justify it, giving her longer to prepare in a the catagory she will most likely be in anyway

As well as weight, the article seems to allude to a lack of commitment to training

If that is the case (which there is a good chance it may not be, and is just an excuse) I could maybe see why

an Agent? I suppose she got a bit of TV time before the commonwealths. Those weightlifting gods sure no how to bum their lifters though.

She featured in the sports personality also

It's a tough game by all accounts, I hope she does well

Not sure its big news as has been mentioned sometimes you get given shorts straws and work around them. It doesn't mean you accept second best but not everybody will have the best of intentions with her and picking your fights comes with guidance and maturity

Talking about leaving the sport is overly dramatic imo, it's a hobby, she's young and I think she will do well with just the close encouragement her friends and coaches gave her that made her the athlete she is

Taking her funding off is not the way I would encourage positive change

Probably next to nothing compared to the amount of money fiona and the rest of the organization commands in return for taking care of the best within the sport

Struggles to keep the weight....at 16 and probably still growing....hmmmmmm hardly takes a brain surgeon to work that one out. So what would the problem be to let her progress up a weight class. And losing 5kg in 10 weeks if perfectly doable IF it is bodyfat that she has to lose. It would be interesting to see if her BF% had changed with her weight increase? She could theoretically have gained muscle mass as well as just bloody grown!

The lack of commitment is of course another matter but she seems to have delivered the goods so far!
