Well my first real comp is over the chalk has settled and on reflection the day went well upto the deadlift. Just before warm up I had a can of monster a high performance gel with caffeine and a high energy bar. I was absolutely raging bouncing about
Sweating all sorts going on. My squats were all good bench good though I missed my third As I went back in to warm up room for the deads I just died my energy crashed my warm ups felt terrible only just managed to get my opener 190 failed my second at this point I said to my coach I'd had enough. Good points my pb's bad point the sugar crash

Squat

150
160
172.5 comp bp

Bech press

100
110 comp pb
115 fail

Deadlift

190 2to1 lost balance and stepped forward
205 fail
3rd lift pass

Total 472.5 comp pb

Well lifted Andy. First comp anything can happen and invariably does. My first comp I had a similar experience with energy rush then sag later in the comp. Managing your energy well would probably see you to a 500 total in your next comp even if you didn't get any stronger.

Bearing in mind I am not that experienced pre-lifting strategies I would say the following are important;
1) Don't overdose on caffeine. How much depends you take before lifting depends a bit on what you are used to. I drink 6- cups of tea a day, not particularly strong and often take a pre-workout before heavy sessions of 200-250mg, therefore on comp days I try and take the same. If I flag I can always take another 200-250 mills before deads. Another school of thought would be to take even less before lifting, as adrenaline/nerves/warm up should already be raising your heart rate significantly, and then takes some caffeine as you tire.
2) Make sure you stay properly hydrated through the day. It is easy to get a bit dehydrated as you overheat through a combination of nerves and stuff.
3) Unless you have a situation where you weigh in early say 10 and lift late try and maintain your energy through snacks (flapjack/ slow release carb-type bars, nuts etc) rather than anything requiring too much digestion. Also avoid mars bars, sugary energy drinks (most of them really) before lifting, though they can prove a temporary boost.

These are just things I try to keep in mind. Everyone has their own which works to varying degrees. I am sure the guys you lift with are a mine of information on these things.

Thanks bud I did commit one or two errors mainly the caffeine I piled in a load just before squats
When I came off the platform on my squats my heart rate must have been through the roof
I was literally shaking lol

I thought the Brad Gilliingham bench program was a heavy single followed by 5 sets of 3 one session then a couple of lighter sessions the other?
