Tonight was the start of the new bench routine.

Did a bit of a run but my legs were still way too sore for that from the weekend so did a fair few warm-ups with the bar before starting the working sets

Boards
30 kg: 5
40 kg: 5x5 - really about getting used to doing boards again as it has been a very long time. Last sets were unsurprisingly the best form and speed wise

CGBP
30 kg: 5, 5, 5

Wide grip
30 kg: 8, 8, 8

Rows (1 armed on machine)
10: 10
20: 20
25: 10, 10, 10

Core stuff - hyperextensions, roman chair and hanging leg raises, weighted little bigs

Good introduction to the new higher volume - felt like a worthwhile session Happy

Here is a link to my mountainbike blog if anyone wants a to read a write up about the race

May have had another short (3 hour or so) cycle at Cannock on Wednesday night - which has thrown my training out a bit this week. What can I say? I'm a CV addict Grin

But did manage to make my very sore legs do the first session of this squat cycle. 5 x 5, again - but going up 5 kg per week I think.

Warm-up with bar then
30 kg: 8
40 kg: 5x5

And that was it - unfortunately a long day at work left me little time to get to the gym tonight Angry

I used to go cycling on and around the Chase many years ago. Whereabouts are you based now?

You did? Which bit?

We're based down in Malvern now - so it's only an hour from Birches Valley. Grin Or 2 if you go at rush hour Angry

Here - the arrow is pointing almost exactly to the house I grew up in. Ten-minute walk at most to the edge of the Chase.

Monday - Deadlift Day

Warm-up run - felt hard

Deads:
60 kg: 5, 5
80 kg: 4
Felt like such hard work I gave up after pulling 2 singles with 100 kg

Tuesday - Rest Day
Couldn't understand why everything (both weights and CV) had been feeling hard since the middle of last week - I had been eating well, not had too much on at work and have taken training really easy over the last week and a half. Then I realised I just haven't been getting enough sleep. So many factors in the equation!

Wednesday - Squat Day (should have been bench day really, but I knew I would be struggling to get to the gym for the rest of the week so wanted a decent session to recover from. Bench is never decent

15 min run to warm up - felt really good - like I could have run all night. Shows was a bit of decent sleep can do. Grin

Warm-up's with bar (lots) then:
30 kg: 5
40 kg: 5
45 kg: 5 x 5 felt like nothing tonight. I was so tempted to put more weight on but made myself behave for once and stick to the cycle.

Front Squats
20 kg: 3, 3
30 kg: 3, 3
40 kg: 3, 3, 3

Lots of weighted core work

Ok, so I may have been a reet fecking dosser over the last couple of weeks. Too much cycling as always and not enough weights, although I did manage a half decent squat session yesterday. I have the big ride of the year coming up this weekend - Helvellyn, twice. (from which I may never return, so it was nice knowing you all if I don't survive it)

Oh yeah, and the weight has fallen back off again Roll-Eyes - back to just over 52 kg in the morning.

I'll just write up yesterday's squats cos, well, they wern't half bad considering the weight loss this week. Just a kg off bodyweight usually takes f**kloads off my total on squats.

Warm up run - 20 mins

Squats
Empty light bar - loads to warm up my hip which has been a little stiff lately
20 kg: 8, 8
30 kg: 5
40 kg: 5
45 kg: 5
50 kg: 5
55 kg: 5
60 kg: 3
65 kg: 3

See, I can do volume!

Also did a bit of benching and core work.

Because cycling (as in, on the bike, not as in weights!) keeps messing up my routines so much I have a new plan. Lift heavy every session I manage to make it to the gym. Starting from next week. Honest Grin
