I personally think that, although males are given a good dose of testosterone fuelled anger, there is nothing like the aggression and sheer cruelty that can come from a woman LOL Grin

Friday G-camp at sugden

Mixed feelings about tonights class - didn't really enjoy the partner I was working with (long story, can't be bothered to go into details)

But my technique was pretty good on the whole, front kicks were spot on again, and I got to work with one of the instructors at the end, who was really helpful. I have really got to work on my speed, so am going to focus alot less on power and just work out laying out a barrage of punches Grin

Gym - Back and bench assistance

CGBP
20 kg and 30 kg warmup (normal grip)
30 kg: 8, 8, 8 (properly set up my grip so this really worked my tri's -form felt good for most of it)

Chins
3, then 2 assisted
2, then 3 assisted
1 (nothing left!)

Chins on machine
-10: 5, 5, 5 (biceps totally fatigued - discotastic)

Rows
28 kg: 5
35 kg: 5
42 kg: 5, 5
49 kg: 5

Rear delts
21 kg: 21
21kg + 1/2 block: 8, 8, 8 (form drifting towards end of the sets - a half block makes so much difference!)

Got a couple of niggles in my knee and my right wrist. Probably should rest tommorow, but won't be able to train Muay Thai on monday, tuesday or wednesday next week, so am going to go to the class at Chorlton.

If you get a partner you don't like at a boxing class surely you can just knock them out on the sly?!

Good luck with the niggles, I think we've all got our fair share at the moment!

this is the position of our fellow vegan Harri, the thai boxing world champion and the coach of the finnish womans national thai boxing team. He said the women are much more viscious and brutal and he is s**tting himself sometimes when the fights get personal.

I'll just stay out of the way.

Ah thanks Happy My knee feels fine this morning, but the wrist is a bit sore. I'm going to have to strap it up for todays class - if I make it at all (maybe a wee bit sore from actually doing some proper lat work for a change!)

That is really interesting, although I guess i'm not overly surprised. I think alot of people underestimate the viciousness of women because the vast majority are not very strong, so they don't have the physical strength to back up their anger. Bet the top level women fighters are lethel (in terms of fighting each other). I would love to be able to train at that level Grin

Saturday

Felt sore, overtrained and had a bad leg. But couldn't resist the saturday G-Camp at Chorlton knowing that there would be no more Muay Thai til thursday (due to work commitments and a trip to scotland Grin )

Started the class feeling tired, but the combo's weren't too bad considering. My right low kicks are pretty good now. It was good to be working with Billy on the pads again as she is a great pad holder. Then Mikey put us on the punch bag, which I didn't really enjoy that much. It was a light bag and moved easily, so it was really timing control practice - something I clearly need to work on lol. Then did some sparring, firstly with Billy, and then (when she had a massive caffiene crash) one of the experienced women. She has been doing Muay Thai for years, apparently, so gave me endless advice. It was brilliant. I was really surprised as I managed to block alot sucessfully, and get alot more strikes in than I was expecting. On the downside there is clearly a long way to go - I am TERRIBLE at keeping my guard up, and there were two times I thought, f**k if this was a fight she would have knocked me out then Eek It was the first time I have worked with someone so experienced who isn't specifically an instructor, and found it so educational. I'll get to spar with her again next week hopefully, as I am not going to make it to the monday class tommorow.

Sunday squat day

Woke up feeling like death warmed up, really rough and feeling sorry for myself. I had a bad nights sleep as my neck was stiffening up rapidly (from sparring I think) and I am useless without at least 8 hours. However, the only bit of me that wasn't sore for once was my hamstrings, so decided to go squat and see how it felt. Good idea as it was a good session today. Happy

Warm-up 10 mins CV

Back squats
20 kg: 3
30 kg: 3
40 kg: 3
50 kg: 3
60 kg: 2
65 kg: 5x3 Woohoo!! Pleased with these - there were a couple of dodgy reps, but got the work done, and the weight was fine, no problem at all.

Front squats
30 kg: 3, 3
40 kg: 2
42.5 kg: 3x3 Pleased with these also, not sure how far I can go with this 3x3 thing, may just go up in kilo incriments from now on and see how far I can take it.

Shrugs
60 kg double overhand no straps: 10 (grip is terrible Laughing)
80 kg: 15
100 kg: 10, 6

10 mins CV at end (ran out of time to do a proper CV workout)

Good session today Grin

Ah thanks guys - yeah, squatting felt good on Sunday, I wasn't even sore on monday Eek May max out soon as long as I can recover from tonights deadlifts quick enough!

Deadlift day

Felt good muscularly after two days rest, but very lethargic. 10 mins CV warm-up didn't really do the trick, and all the deads felt heavy until rep 2 of the 110 kg's. I haven't lifted 110 kg for a very long time, so was pleased how easy they felt in the end, probably could have done ten reps with this today. Completely lost my grip on the fourth rep, so did the fifth with straps, but that felt all wrong (although it locked out no problem, just feels funny deadlifting double overhand!). So did a final without straps and lost a callous instead. Ah well, no pain, no gain Grin

60 kg: 3, 3
80 kg: 3
100 kg: 1
105 kg: 1
110 kg: 1, 1, 1, 1 (well, didn't lock it out coz lost grip) 1, 1

Rack pulls
70 kg: 3
90 kg: 3
120 kg: 3
130 kg: F back rounded and couldn't keep the tension.

20 mins CV - felt easy tonight, CV fitness definately returning

Some abs and rotar cuffs.

You can strap up mixed grip, you know. I always used to when I was using straps. Works fine.

Yeah, I must have a practice with the straps on mixed grip Happy

Thursday - M15 Muay Thai

Great class - I had an awful day til that point and was feeling pretty run down by the stress of it all (long story to do with an idiot who trys to kick and punch my dog, and then gets upset when the dog starts barking at him). Got to the class feeling pretty lethargic, but was cheered rapidly by the ease I ran through the warm-up and drills. Something somewhere has begun to click. I got praised more than I got shown how to do stuff for once Happy We drilled stance, stepping, punching and elbows - our instructor has plans to get us all graded by easter, which scares me to death. Then we did knees. Until this point my knees have been weak and undirected (unless in the clinch, then they always hit the spot) - but today I got the up AND forward motion. Initially I was working with a guy on the pads, and to my upmost surprise, was pushing him all over the room Shocked My 45 degree knees have always been better anyway, but they were also good. Weird how things sometimes click.

Friday - G-camp

Was supposed to have a private at 3:45 before getting to G-camp at 5:00 pm. However, the private got cancelled, which may have been a good thing, as I had a great class this evening. Kicks were pretty powerful, as were punches. It all felt pretty good. Got to do some blocking practice as part of the warm up, which was useful as we dont get much blocking practice at the G-Camp classes.

Gym

CGBP - really keeping them elbows tight to the body.
20 kg: warm up
30 kg: 5
32.5 kg: 5 x 5

Lat Pulls
21 kg: warm up
35 kg: 5
42 kg: 5 (bit heavy)
35 kg plus half block: 5 x 5

Push press
This was the only thing I couldn't get right tonight, no matter how much I tried - mistiming all the way. This is such a technical exercise - if I get it right, the bar flys 35 kg feels like nothing. If I get it wrong....Eek
20 kg: 5
25 kg: 3
32.5 kg: 4, 4 got pissed off with not getting the form right

Ab pull downs
35 kg: 8
42: 4
35 kg + half block: 8, 8

Overall pleased - particularly with Muay Thai right now Happy

Jo, not sure if you're aware but your left rear light isn't working on the good old fiesta. I noticed as you drove past the Grosvenor Shop (and also observed Adam stuffing his face.. the little fatty!).

Oh aye, it blows bulbs every 5 minutes, but thanks for letting me know Happy Trust me, a dodgy bulb is the least of my worries when it comes to that van! The suspension is so knackard every white line feels like a speed hump and the engine mount has gone so I can hear the block bouncing around - the brakes aren't right, the battery light is always on and the petrol gauge is somewhat iffy in it's measurement. One day it's going to die, but work won't get me a new one until then Roll-Eyes

Saturday

G-Camp at Chorlton 1:45 mins

Great class today - apart from the total lack of calories, I just hadn't managed to eat enough in the morning and crashed within 10 mins. Doh!

I didn't have a partner, so got paired up with one of the instructors. The guy probably weighed 50 kg, definately less than me for sure. But he is amazingly strong and powerful. Obviously he was holding back when he was hitting the pads most of the time, but when he did decide to kick/punch the power was IMMENSE. I learnt so much just watching him do the pad work. As a partner, of course he was brilliant - he was throwing in things for me to block, as well as just hit the pads, and talking me through the things I was getting wrong. I have been struggling with spinning backfists, and now I know why (my arm was leading rather than my leg).

It was really reassuring, however, that my padwork was pretty good on the whole (despite the lack of food). I even got told that I was better than alot of the girls who had been coming for years Grin I have been told to work with more of the experienced girls and guys, because it will be the best way I can improve my technique. I.e., I think he means, get beaten up a few times and then you'll get better Grin

Squat day at Sugden.

Hmm, planning PB attempts is never a good thing for me - something always goes wrong somewhere! Not enough calories yesterday, a hard G-Camp class and very sore legs by the evening. This morning I got up early to eat and then planned to go back to bed, but instead spent most of it on the net. Bad idea, as I was knackard by the time I got to sugden. The first rep of 72.5 kg that I failed was possibly the hardest fight I have ever had in my life when lifting - the bar went forward and I really fought to come out of the good morning position I got myself in. The second attempt was high, but was a good confidence builder and I got the full rep on the third attempt. Its a shame the first was such a nightmare, if I had dumped it I would have probably been better off as it zapped all my energy. I'm sure if I had nailed the first rep I would have easily got 75 kg or more today. But hey ho - i'm back to a routine now and will probably leave maxing out until the whim takes me next time, when i'm feeling good and I have done some repping with 70 kg. Plus I have injured my knee (see below), but at least there was a PB today, despite everything Grin

10 mins CV warm-up

Squats 20 kg: 6
40 kg: 3 Then changed squat rack
20 kg: 6
40 kg: 1
45 kg: 1
50 kg: 1
60 kg: 1
65 kg: 1
72.5 kg Fail, 1 high rep, - 1 full rep PB GrinGrin

Front squats
20 kg: 3
30 kg: 3
40 kg: 3
43 kg: 3, 1 - back started feeling uncomfertable so I stopped.

Bench - week 5 of the 13 week cycle.
20 kg, 30 kg warm up reps
35 kg: 3
37.5 kg: 5x3

Really weird, when I was setting myself up for my fourth set on benching, I pulled something in my knee. I didn't realise how bad it was until I got up after the final set. So I came straight home and got it iced ASAP. Now it's painful, but hopefully nothing too serious. A few days rest should do it I hope.

Well done on the PB Jo. Does it take your Wilks past Rick's?

In a freaky coincidence I also picked up some nasty back of the knee twang benching after squats. Hopefully it will be right tomorrow, good luck to you too.
