An amazing human being Member 2047, 17156 posts SQ 262.5, BP 170, DL 300732.5 kgs @ 108kgs UnEq | Yay, common sense prevailed! However, how much money was wasted on this (what turned out to be a totally pointless) activity? I honestly cpuldn't see the point of it, Scotland wanted the union hundreds of years ago and it has turned out very well for all concerned so why try and break it up? On the plus side there hasn't been civile war like Ukraine and Syria so thta's a bonus, we've done it all nice and polite. Hopefully all the markets will bounce back to normal and i can enjy a higher exchange rate and get more for my money. (before anyone says I'm anti-scottish - i'm not, my entire family are scottish and all voted no)

I know people freeze to death south of the border. The difference is in an independent Scotland, our votes count enough to make it so that it doesn't happen anymore which is what yes was trying to achieve. Scotlands influence in politics in Britain is miniscule. In the last 100 years if every single person in Scotland voted for the same party at the same time, we could only have changed the outcomes of 2 elections. This is why we've got 1 Conservative seat in Dumfries and Galloway yet live under a Conservative coalition government just now. It's always been this way for us. Scotland does get uni paid for as a direct influence of the Scottish Parliament. The reason for this is equality so that the poor can provide for their families. I came from a poor family. I'm now contributing to the economy because of my education. Scotland also gets free prescriptions which is also a direct result of the Scottish parliament. The reason we have this is because the very poor and very ill can't actually afford the prescriptions they need. Many people die in England every year because they can't afford medication they need. With no Scottish parliament, lives would be lost and everyone here would be thick as 80s porno pubes. Westminster could devolve our parliament tomorrow if they wished. Would you like to see Europe dissolve Westminster at a days notice?

Member 3240, 270 posts SQ 250, BP 130, DL 290670.0 kgs @ 121kgs UnEq | Problem with the system is Scotland are always the guinea pigs for everything. First to get the counctil tax. First to get smoking ban and now the bedroom tax. A lot of people wanted yes due to this! If nothing does change from what the uk gov has said then I think there will be another referendum. And there will be a spilt. I voted no due to none of the basic questions being answered. If we did stick with the pound, Scotland would still be governed by the Bank of England, so in what way would we be independant? Etc

That's what we were pushing for in Glasgow. With such a huge turnout of voters ( critical for any democracy, as it validates the decisions, last general election had 29% turnout!) voices were heard and things will change, with such a large amount of people saying they are unhappy about certain things, they cannot be ignored. I think positives will come from this even for the Yes voters simply because of the turnout. I don't think "independence" would have actually made much substantial difference to Scotland in the long run, so conversely, in the long run, staying as part of the UK will be a good thing. Plus there seemed to be a vast amount of propaganda for Yes, and I have seen almost nothing no mention of No benefits. So again, I am optimistic for our sporran wearing friends getting what they want in the long run. Overhauls of governments are rarely the answer and a lot of false promises come with that sort of thing as there is a huge amount of power and financial gain to be had for the new top dogs, no different than anywhere else. And honestly the whole Ukraine/Syria comparisons, it is true. This is a great example of why the UK is such a worldwide power. You don't like something, you all go out to vote, bosh. Nobody gets murdered in the street, nobody gets thrown out of their home, the country doesn't grind to a halt. What needs to be done to get the widely-despised Cameron out is to actually turn up to vote and make voices heard, like the Scots have done, rather than "not vote" as this does not help anything and does not represent a view. Spoiling a vote, however, actively says "everyone is s**t, find me someone else" and has weight. This is the main problem with the current government and why people are all unhappy, if only 30% of the population turns up to vote then what do you expect? The majority of the country didn't even actively voice an opinion and this is why everyone is like "well I didn't want this". Hopefully the significance of this referendum gets people off their bums to go and make themselves heard come voting time.
