Squat Session

Last 2 weeks of training before the UKs so its time to drop the reps and work up to heavy singles. That started today with the squat.

Squat
70x2 120x2 170x2 220x1 270x1 320x1(wraps) 330x1(wraps) PB

Originally wanted to go up to 320 only today but it pretty much flew off my back so went or a new PB with 330. Dropped a knee wrap halfway through wrapping my 2nd leg which anyone who uses wraps is a dilemma worthy of tears. Managed to get it sorted though and the 330 went up ok. More in the tank for next week.

BIG SQUAT!!

Thanks Andy

Yeah the extra bodyweight and a lot more bodybuilding style movements over the past year has helped a lot on the press.

Happy with the squat progress too. 10kg increase over the past year might not seem a lot to most but I'm very happy with it. Who knows 340 may happen next week!

Dangerously close to 400. Aren't you too massive to have such a tiny close grip and stance?

Also do you work on a rewards system in that if you do a massive lift you allow yourself some extended bodybuilding afterwards?

Hahaha I am in no way massive. Yeah you're not the only one to say I need to widen my stance but I like the narrow stance for a couple of reasons;
1) I feel I reduces the distance I need to pull the bar
2) It allows me to start with a higher hip position which feels more comfortable for me especially as I'm a back-dominant puller
3) I feel like I utilise the bend in the bar a bit better.

As for a rewards system no not at all. I drop all my heavy assistance (deadlift variations) close to comp but keep the bodybuilding stuff in as I need to keep putting on mass to keep up with the other bigger guys long term and it makes me feel like I have done more in the session.
