Deadlift, slippers on but no sleeves and no belt

Both me on the bar on the floor

60 x 3
60 x 3
60 x 3
60 x 3
60 x 3
80 x 3
100 x 3
120 x 3
140 x 3
150 x 3
160 x 3
170 x 3
180 x 3
These all went very well, a flat, level floor is a wonderful thing but these were rather hard on the hands and I can't say I am sure why. So I will leave it for now and see if things improve for next time

Thank you for answering my previous question about your weekly shop.

Next question. Do you enjoy mustard? If so, which is your favourite type of mustard?

Not a big fan of mustard to be honest. Never use it.

I know this question is not for me, but smooth Dijon mustard is a glory and a gift to us all, and it's a rare day I don't use some of it.

Friday, 11th October, start 16:10

Barbell bent row, very strict
35 x 10
40 x 10
45 x 10
50 x 10
55 x 10
60 x 10
65 x 10
70 x 10
75 x 10
80 x 10
85 x 10
85 x 10
85 x 10

In case you are wondering why such an unusual starting weight it is because I used a ladies weightlifting bar and they only weigh 15 kilos, so a 10 each side and there you have 35 kilos, the reason for using his bar was simply was it was the nearest one to hand and it doesn't make a whole lot of difference. These didn't bother the hands at all

Pec dec flys
53 x 10
56 x 10
60 x 10
64 x 10
67 x 10
71 x 10
75 x 10
75 x 10
75 x 10

These seemed rather easier than I remembered. All in all quite a happy night

Careful calling it a ladies bar, Pete. The snowflakes will be offended by that.
They prefer it to be called the non binary bar these days.

A relevant and timely warning which happily I am old enough and grumpy enough to completely ignore. This will be done on the grounds that a ladies bar is precisely what it is. Before we had women at the club we did not have these bars, and they were purchased as and when the women arrived. So I kind of have logic on my side.

If the snowflakes are truly offended, then I will quietly apologize and then advise them, that speaking as a man with some experience in these matters, a thick skin is a very handy thing to have.

Tonight I am out on the town, regular gentle readers will recall that about two years ago I went to a school reunion and I expressed the sentiment that while worthwhile I had no desire to do it again. And here I am doing it again

The reunion caused the creation of a facebook page which has attracted some people who were not contactable before and some of them will be there.
The venue is very local to me and there is no difficulty in getting there or in parking.
There is no reason to not go.

The most famous of my school year is unquestionably Matt Aitken of Stock, Aitken and Waterman fame, the second could well be the fellow I used to run quizzes with (Garth) who was for a time the bass player in the Buzzcocks (who were founded by Pete Shelley who was in the year below me at the same school, although he was Pete McNeish then). Anyway said bass player is now in another band and they are turning up to play.

Although I have known Garth for many years and long been aware of his musical history, I have never actually heard him play. Well that will change tonight.

The group was formed by Pete Shelley who was also at my school at the same time I was, he was either a year in front or a year behind - I can never remember which, he was Pete McNeish then.

He died not too long ago about a year back from memory and recruited Garth to fill a hole in the band's lineup. Not sure how long he was a member for but I don't think it was too long. From what Garth has been told me Shelley lived his final years in Estonia or somewhere similar, largely because of its cheaper cost of living.

The band he is with now are all people who have real jobs and play for fun and a few extra quid. They played stuff from back in the day and weren't half bad

Monday, 14th October, start 16:10

Tonight I intend replicating last week's session, if it is easier then we press on, if it is not I will stroke the beard and ponder

Bench, very raw
20 x 15
20 x 15
20 x 15
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 3
80 x 3
90 x 2
100 x 2
110 x 1
115 x 1
120 x 1
No need to go any farther than that, if the 125 had gone, and the jury is out on that one, it would certainly have been no easier that last week so I will have to move back a few sessions and start again. The question is how far back ? I have a week to decide.

Close grip bench
60 x 8
60 x 8
70 x 8
70 x 8

Tricep pushdown
40 x 10
50 x 10
60 x 10
70 x 10
70 x 10
70 x 10
The close grips were causing the left shoulder some little grief so I changed to pushdowns which caused no grief what so ever.

We have a white board in the club and someone brought in some markers with which to write on it. Unfortunately one of these markers was of the permanent variety and some imbecilic dolt* wrote on the board with it. At some point over the weekend someone has cleaned the board and made a damned good job of it. No-one seems to know who this kindly person was but he / she has our thanks.

*It was me. I wrote on it

What did you write on it? There is a white board at my gym too which doesn't get used for anything in particular except from me writing things that I think are funny on it.
