Gravy has been covered above, the thinner the better. No gravy is better than lumpy gravy.
Curry sauce is vile and I will not entertain it.

I cannot comprehend this for a single moment. Lumpy gravy? No way. Thin gravy? I don’t want water on my chips thank you. Thick gravy is much tastier due to the higher concentration of gravy granules per ml of water, but not lumpy. And you don’t like curry sauce? Blimey... Surprising to say the least.

Good gravy does not involve granules in any way!

Agree 100%, but we’re talking about chippy gravy here, and I highly doubt they’re draining off excess fat from any form of cooked meat.

Thin custard is better than thick too in my opinion, but each to their own. I am not a huge fan of curry full stop and if ever I do eat it I always have the mildest of the mild. So my refusal to pour it over something as delicious as a chip should not surprise.

There also seems to be a fad now for cheesy chips which is, as the name suggests rancid cheese over lovely chips - in the words of the Prophet - "oh for f**k's sake"

Happy

Out of interest, does the recipe for good gravy involve straining at any point ?

I am a familiar face in a couple of local chippys, so if I remember I will ask. I have never associated their gravy with granules.

I used to go to a chippy on Oldham market that did chips with cheese and curry sauce. It was amazing.

Straining prevents lumps, not thickness. (In gravy-making. In s**tting it's very different.)

Very warm tonight and all went well. Bank holiday Monday and no fixed plans for tomorrow or Sunday so relaxation is on the cards. The forecasters say it will be very warm this weekend which is good news but I find it hard to enthuse about it.

Lumps are the great evil, I am talking gravy now, as long as it pours I can take any amount of thickness, but my preference is for thin.

Chinese chip shop curry sauce is nothing whatsoever like Indian curry. There’re totally different. Fish, chips and curry, and steak pudding, chips and curry are both absolutely fantastic.

In all fairness, Mr Pete puts it all right on Front Street - He's an old, fat, fool!

So his nonsensical foodstuff preferences almost have to be forgiven!

But if all the curries you had ever had vary between horrible and not that good, why would you be inclined to further experiment along the curry route ?

Agreed. I have looked for an argument for sixty plus years against that and never found one, probably never will now.
