Friday 27 March

Log

90kg x 6 sets of 3, last set was ftoh.

Did some very light front squats and lots of stretching and foam rolling. Will be back to squats and deadlifts next week and get back in amongst some proper training. Feel like I've mostly recovered from the qualifier last weekend and looking forward to getting a solid run of training in now.

Monday 30 March

Log

90kg x 6 sets of 4, last set was ftoh. Did it wearing my spud belt for the first time and struggled a bit with the clean at times due to the cutouts on the log, presses were straightforward enough though.

Front squat

90kg x 8
120kg x 2 sets of 5
140kg x 3

Nothing too strenuous on the front squats. A bit rusty having not done them for a while and need a bit of work on wrist flexibility again but easy enough squats.

Reasonable session today.

Tuesday 31 March

Deadlift

207.5kg x 2

Speed deadlift

165kg x 8 sets of 3

Superset of bent over rows, sldl and chins

175kg x 8,8,5. A bit ambitious on the weight and my form was a bit sloppy on the rows do dropped the weight.
160kg x 2 sets of 8,8,5.

Week one of the coan routine, I'm sure it will be another 10 weeks of unpleasantness as all the assistance stuff sucks ass. It should however give results like it has the other 2 times I've run it.

Thursday 2 April

Log (ftoh)

90kg x 6 sets of 2

Front Squat

90kg x 6
110kg x 5
120kg x 5
130kg x 3
140kg x 2

All done in about 45 minutes, did my first few sets of squats in between my sets of log. Nothing too crazy tonight but got through a bit of work quite quickly and had me blowing a bit.

Saturday 4 April

Yoke

285kg x 32m
325kg x 16m
Belt on
365kg x 16m, fairly quick but still room for improvement.
390kg x 8m or so. Got moving with it OK and was moving at a good speed but got a bit overconfident and tried to take too big steps and dropped it. Felt like I may have strained something in my upper back so didn't go for another pick up.
285kg x 3 runs of 18m, belt less speed runs.

Farmers (all done walking the turn at the halfway point)

70kg x 55m
90kg x 3 runs of 40m, fast but need to work on the turn to avoid losing time there.

Pretty solid session today. I think the last time I did yoke was training with Ben before he went over for junior uks last year so wasn't expecting much. Ended up being pretty decent and lifted the heaviest yoke I have done since ssm u105 in June 2013. Nothing to write home about with the farmers but alright technique work. Was worried that I had tweaked something in my upper back after my heavy yoke run but it has eased off and don't think it is anything to worry about.

Nice yoke work Neil, looked really solid on the video. With the farmers have you tried doing it in a figure 8 instead of straight with a turn?

Cheers dave. Yeah I tried a few different techniques and that was one of them. The one I found worked best was to just go flat out and make the turn quickly but stop once you are round the corner steady the farmers then set off again. That way I can be quick both out and back and reckon I ultimately save time overall.

That was all I had time for, starting to feel like I am working a bit now. One last week of 6 x 6 then the weights go up and the volume goes down.

Wednesday 8 April

Deadlift

220kg x 2

Speed deadlift

180kg x 8 sets of 3

Bent over rows

160kg x 3 sets of 8

SLDL

160kg x 3 sets of 8

Chins

Bodyweight x 3 sets of 5

It was a tough one today, coming off of 2 nightshifts into a day shift tomorrow so had very little sleep and my body clock Is all messed up. Got the work in without any real issues today though. Nothing too heavy so only put a belt on for the rows, still plenty of volume at this stage of the program so got a good back pump going.

Log (ftoh)

90kg x 6 sets of 2

Front squat

120kg x a couple of sets of 6

Had a bit of an upset stomach today and found training tough as I wasn't feeling great. Kept the front squats light but got the reps I needed to on the log. Hopefully I will be back to full fitness for events up in Huntly on Sunday.

Sunday 12 April

Events up at the shed in Huntly with dave sanderson.

Viking press

105kg x 3
125kg x 1
105kg x 2 sets of 5

Farmers

Can't quite remember what I did at which weight but just switched to holds on the heavier ones as my runs weren't great. Think I went up to about 130kg. Found the thin painted handles quite tough as they were pretty slippy.

Keg toss

I think the weights were 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 kg with a 56lb weight at the end. Did a couple of runs through and found it fun but my technique was a bit haphazard with some throws getting great height and some going too far backwards. Enjoyable enough anyway, although I have no idea how Highland games guys get the 56lb weight over a 16 plus foot bar, I reckon my best was probably about 9 feet.

Stones

Did 80, 90, 120, 130(all one motioned up to this point) 150kg and an attempt at the 180kg stone but couldn't budge it. Got the 150kg stone quite comfortably so happy with that.

Not a stellar session today mostly as I have spent most of the past 2 days on the toilet s**tting through the eye of a needle. As a result if that I was feeling quite weak. Had a fun session though and enjoyed getting a shot of keg toss too.

Should have been 6 x 6 but still feeling proper s**t and haven't recovered from being ill yet. Managed to get the work in and only missed 2 reps so relatively happy given how rough I was feeling at the start of the session. Still a bit annoyed to be missing reps as the weight should be comfortable for me, at least that is the worst of the volume stuff done and the weights start to ramp up a bit now. Not training again till thursday now so hopefully will be back to 100% by then as I am thoroughly fed up of feeling rough and not managing to eat properly.

Friday 16 April

Deadlift

235kg x 2, far harder than it should have been.

Speed deadlifts

197.5kg x 6 sets of 3

Bent over rows

160kg x 3 sets of 8

Chins

Bodyweight x 3 sets of 5

SLDL

160kg x a set of 8 and a set of 6, nothing left at all by this stage.

That was a really tough one today, everything felt heavier than it should have been. I have recovered from the bug I had for most of the last week but still weak as piss from not eating right all week. I did however get pretty much all the work in, it all felt far heavier than it should have though. Plenty of food today and I am hoping to get a better log/events session tomorrow.

Log

90kg x 2 sets of 6 and 4 sets of 2 ftoh, did a couple of extra sets of 6 as I missed reps the other day.

Farmers

70kg x 2 runs of 18m
110kg x 2 runs of 18m
130kg x 2 runs of 18m

Farmers hold

160kg x 4 holds, averaged about 10 seconds each, some a little less than that. Planning on sticking at this weight and trying to increase the time each time I do them as my grip still needs some work.

That was all for today, nothing particularly exciting but felt far better than I have done in any of my other sessions this week. This week's training has been very tough due to being ill/recovering from illness but I think I am back to full fitness now.

Had planned to do a comp on 10 may but don't think I will make it now due to work so won't be competing again till June which should give me plenty of time to work on my log and deadlift.

Hard going today, got a bit of a cold and didn't manage to get enough food in at work today. Got my reps in tonight but it was tough from start to finish. Hopefully I will get a good pb at the end of this plan in a few weeks as it has sucked ass getting through all this volume.
