Glad you enjoyed the bands Joni. They're an acquired taste. Tonight's workout...

Warm up to 125 for 3, then 5 sets of 3 with 145.

One purple band on and 100 for 5, 110 for 5, 120 for 5, 110 for 5, 100 for 5.

And that was that. Why are the ones that are so easy to write up the ones that are so bloody hard work?

Really, tonight was almost two sessions in one. Five threes with 145 is pretty much a workout. 5 heavy fives with a band is pretty much a workout, so I guess I got some good volume in today.

Every single rep with 145 felt hard, but Little Dave, who can come out with some very sagacious comments from time to time, reckoned my technique got me through and my lockout has really improved. Nice to hear, and I've got to agree with him. My form feels more solid than it ever has before.

The first four sets on 145, I think there was another one there, but in the fifth set I was gone after three. The 120 set with the band was mega-hard. The fifth rep took every fibre of my being to lock it out but I did it. (Sorry to Dave if he reads this for how I requested that he not touch the bar!)

I'm staying away from the shirt until after Bradford on the 15th, then it's all out shirt work from early January until the BWLA Bench (second weekend in March in Stan Macrow's place). Going to try and go 160 second lift in Bradford.

I was knackered before I went in tonight and only really came to life after the second set with 145, so I've got to be pleased with that.

Well done Tom. Once you get Bradford out of the way and lose your virginity, so to speak, you'll never look back. You might also reflect, on losing it, "Is that all there is to it? It wasn't that hard!"

Nice to see you posting. I was getting worried there. Your body will take time to adapt to doing heavy manual work AND powerlifting, but it WILL adapt and you WILL make the qualifying total with loads to spare on the 15th. Then you've got till next July for the adaptation to happen. Worry not, my friend - nothing but positive thoughts.

Good work today Karen. The question of how much work to do in a shirt out of competition is a difficult one, and lots of good lifters will give you sincerely held but diametrically opposed answers. My own view is that if you're doing 2 bench sessions a week, fit three equipped lifts/sets into one of them and little and often will get you there. When you got your breathing right and got your hands in at the right point the bar flew up. Try and focus on that every rep until it becomes second nature. If you could get your hands on one "gentle" band that would really help as well, because more of your raw work could be shirt-orientated.

Not really a proper workout today, but I'll record it anyway. Was at NW Training Day at Colne. Played around with different band settings, and was given some food for thought. Bryn and Jim's setup is probably more scientific than mine, but mine, by accident rather than design I might add, seems more suited to my lifting plane. But their's might suit my training partners better!

Warmed up and did 100 for 3, 120 for 3, 140 for 2. 150 for 1 and failed 160. Not really geared up for lifting heavy today. Don't know whether to do my normal Monday or not. See how I feel tomorrow.

Thanks Bryn and Jim for the session today Happy Was really good and confidence-boosting for me and helpful. Thanks for your support, advice and experience Grin

Good lifting today Karen. Still oddles of untapped potential. Looking for an 80+ bench and 130+ squat in a fortnight! Belief is the key, esp now you know what to tell your helpers re putting on the shirt.

Hey hey! Well done, handsome one! Can we get his training log here now? If we can't get the fat lad, we may as well get the handsome one! Any more results?

Nothing else Martin. Just a text off Joe. Dont think Fred is very internet savvy, so best to keep working on Pedro.

Oh, and Fred is just tooo cool for any gold, silver or even lemon coloured clothes
Unhappy

Gold IS cool. Just that not everyone can carry it off!

I'm going to wear my ultra tight white top on Sunday and start a Hadley fan club. Doesn't match the thong, but what the hell?

Tonight was a struggle. Everyone in the gym seemed to be struggling tonight.

Shrugs - sets of 10 with 10, 12, 14, 16, 18.
Upright Rows - sets of 10 with 4, 5, 6, 7. Felt a tweak so didn't try a set with 8.
Dips Machine - sets of 10 with 10, 12, 15, 17.
Facepulls - sets of 10 with 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
Triceps Pressdowns - sets of 10 with 40, 50, 60, 70, 80.
Shoulder Horn - 3 sets of 20 with 7s; 3 sets of 10 with 10s

Couldn't be arsed doing any cardio, so chewed the fat for half an hour with various people and then left.
