That chain looked really painfull.

I was there all day Saturday. Scrounged a lift up with Kevin who was looking after the weighing in for the morning session and then reffed all the ladies lifts, as did little Pete. Consequently I was there for 8:45AM and did not leave until after 6:30PM. I can reccomend the breakfast at the cafe downstairs though.

Saw Fruitbat and Jon in there SB tee's but they were wrapped up in the comp so I left them to it. I was the fat bald bloke in the ill fitting brown tee shirt. Thanks for the tea's Ed, I hope the missus did not give you too much of a hard time for staying late.

Kevin decided to lift at the very last minute, saying "I'll just do my openers" but this went out of the window when he failed his opening squat. then he said, "I think I'll go for the DeadLift record". Consequently, despite lifting in the 100's when he is really a 90 kilo lifter (he weighed in at 91) and completing a full training session the night before, he won the comp by over 100 kilos and set a new record in the process. In 5 weeks he will be in the Czech Republic for the masters, going for his first world title.

There really was some excellent squatting in the 100 kilo class, with the lad from Wigan (Boyhan?) going really deep with 270 kilos in only his second competition????
I thought that all the ladies did really well, although it was a shame that one girl opened her squat way to high and consequently bombed out, she looked very strong.

A long but enjoyable day. Pity I missed Sunday's lifting though.

Pressures off.

Apparently due to commitments to other competitions, all the regions are struggling for a team so the competition has been put back until November.

Anybody interested in competing for the East Midlands then can still get in touch with Pete.

Friday 31st August.
Weighed in at 117.4 kilos.
Squatting with Kevin. Benching with Kevin, Mark and Little Pete.

Squat
5 x 70
3 x 110
3 x 130
3 x 150
5 x 170 stand up from 6" below normal rack height
5 x 190 stand up as above
3 x 210 stand up as above
1 x 230 stand up as above
1 x 250 stand up as above
3 x 150
Felt like a good session, all the full squats were nice and deep and this was the first time I have ever took 250 out of the rack and stood with it on my back for 10 secs - Heaveeeeee.

Bench
3 x 10 x 35 wide / close / normal
10 x 60
5 x 80
3 x 100
1 x 110
1 x 115
5 x 100
5 x 90 close grip
8 x 80 close grip
3 x 10 x 60 wide / close / normal
Again, this felt like a good session, the 115 felt heavy when taking it out of the rack but it came down and went up okay.

Will be going up to the BWLA unequipped on Saturday to spectate, Kevin & Little Pete will be reffing. Kevin is undecided about competeing as his target is really the world masters in 5 weeks time, so he put in a heavy training session tonight on all three lifts.
» LIFTERS WANTED (Go to post)31-08-2007 @ 18:54
I have made myself available if no other lifters come forward. As you know it was not in my plan to lift again until Feb next year.

Pete Weiss will be reffing at the un-equipped tomorrow at the same venue if anybody wants to have a chat with him about it.

Ed,
It looks now like I might also be going up to the u/e tomorrow. See you there.

The BWLA All Midland team event takes place on Saturday 15th September at Tysley, Birmingham and the East Midlands team are short of lifters.

If you are registered with the BWLA East Midlands region and would like to compete you can get further details from Pete Weiss at Peter@pweiss.wanadoo.co.uk a team consists of up to 10 men and I think 10 women. At the moment Pete tells me he has 4 men and no women.

Wednesday 29th.
Weight steady at 117.8 kilos.
Tonight was the first session of 8 weeks heavy traing.
Looking to set Squat and Bench PB's at the end of it.
Pyramid benching up to 110 kilos, no problems.
Sumo dead lift up to 3 x 150 but cut it short due to stabbing pains in the side of my right knee.

Serious bad news - THE FARM POWERLIFTING CLUB is to close. We are being kicked out of the premises by the local council who want to make the room available to the local girl guides and scouts (the little bas****s). I have suggested we simply fight them for the room. We have to vacate by December 21st.

Does anybody want a gym? Furthermore does anybody know where around 20 powerlifters can go 2-3 times a week in Northampton.:( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Ed,
I will probably not be able to get down to Birmingham on the Saturday as I have been requisitioned to help move daughter No3 into her new flat in Bedford. However Little Pete and Kevin will almost certainly be there reffing. If Kevin competes on the Sunday I might try and scrounge a lift over with him then.

Ed,
Little Pete tells me that both he and Kevin will be reffing on the Saturday so I might scrounge a lift up with them. Still not sure if Kevin is going to defend his title on the Sunday though.
» What do belts do? (Go to post)22-08-2007 @ 14:02
I use an Inzer lever belt and whilst it took some getting used to now I would not be without it. I wear the belt for all squats and deads over 70% max.

If the belt is cutting in you have probably got it in the wrong place, try lifting it up a bit. Alternatively, you could go for the narrow front lever belt, it is the usual width at the back but not much wider than the lever at the front.

My only problem is that it weighs about 5 kilos. I think that we should be able to add this figure to our lifts when squatting and dead lifting.

Monday 20th.

Just a light work out tonight after spending the weekend in France.

I am currently in the middle of my annual rest period, I usually take 3-4 weeks out around this time when, if I go into the gym at all, I just do light reps and stretching. The general idea being to give the body time to recover from all the little niggling injuries. As I am not training towards a specific competition, this does not cause me any problems, I do however notice that after a few weeks out of training my lifts will all have dropped by around 15%.

Benching reps up to 100K and Sumo DL up to 130K concentrating on technique.
» Long Term Target 2 (Go to post)13-08-2007 @ 19:51
Another crap session, training is all over the place at the moment, what with work, holidays etc. Still concentrating on Sumo dead's, lots of reps at 150 and trying to improve technique but failed to get 175 off the floor.

Benching with Kevin Jane, up to 112.5 it all felt very heavy tonight, two weeks ago 120 felt easy.

On top of all this my weight is starting to go up again, back to 117.65 kilos tonight.
» Long Term Target 2 (Go to post)10-08-2007 @ 20:32
Friday 10th.

Good Squat session tonight.
Full Squatting up to 170. Attempted a 180 PB but was way to high to call it a good lift. Tried some walk outs up to 220 kilos - felt heavy.

Crap Bench session tonight.
Was intending to have a go at a 122.5PB but I failed 115 three times!!!! I felt good but there was just nothing in the tank tonight.

I'll save it for next week.
» Long Term Target 2 (Go to post)08-08-2007 @ 20:12
First day back at the gym since a week in France and I was looking forward to it. However, after a s**tty day at the office with a 6 hour (2008 budgets), yes 6 hour meeting I am injured. How can I get injured by sitting on my arse for 6 hours? I have no idea but my right knee has swollen up and driving home was really painfull. So, am I the only person to get injured by sitting on my arse bored to tears for 6 hours?

Went to the gym anyhow and concentrated on benching. Reps up to 100 kilos then singles 110, 115 and 117.5 which failed about 3 inches off my chest. Then close grip reps at 90.

Tried some sumo dead's up to 150 but the pain got too much at heavier weights.

Squatting and bench on Friday. I wonder what will get injured before then.
