Friday 16th.

Tonight was one of those sessions were everything just feels heavy and I just feel crap. Weighed in at 117.8 kilos, so the weight is coming down nicely, however I've got a nasty sore throat today which is a sure sign that very serious man flu is on the way. Benching and squatting with Kevin.

Squat
2 x 5 x 70
5 x 110
5 x 130
2 x 150 should have been 3
1 x 160 should have been 2
2 x 150 should have been 3
This session was meant to have included a 1 x 170 and ended with 5 x 140 but everything was just tooooo heavy.

Bench
3 x 10 x 35 close / wide / normal
10 x 60
10 x 70
5 x 80
5 x 90
3 x 100
2 x 105 failed 3rd lift badly
1 x 110
3 x 100 close grip
4 x 90 close grip
Another poor session.

Really feeling washed out tonight, I guess the past few weeks are catching up with me, the drop in temperature from 35 degrees last week to -3 degrees this week, a busy and stressful week back at work and 7 days off the alchohol, I think I'm going to bed now to sleep until Monday.

However, with just 5 weeks until the Farm gym has to close the man from "Northamptonshire Sport" came to visit us this afternoon. He is hopeful of finding us a new venue at the local college about 400m from where we are now, apparently they are looking for proper free weights equipment and all we will have to do is let the local sports college's use the equipment as well.
FINGERS CROSSED WERE NOT DEAD YET.

Also. I caught the end of my thumb between two 20 kilo plates tonight, shiiiiiite that hurt. I've now got one lovely blood blister on the end of my right thumb.

That will be Larry up the corner with his 10 kilo dumbells. He always has his i-pod earphones in and does not realise how much he grunts. He also follows his session on the dumbells with 5 minutes looking at himself in the mirror.

Wed 14th.

Pain, pain and more pain. Everything has been hurting since Mondays session, what's more it hurts more today than it did yesterday. Probably a sign that I did some work on Monday night and last nights swimming (quick 1/2 mile) probably did not help.

A good crowd in at the Farm again tonight, but I worked on my own (apart from spotters) today. Weighed in at 118.45K, 1/2 a kilo lighter than Monday.

I am still keeping the weights light and intend to build up again slowly.

Bench
3 x 10 x 35 close / wide / normal
10 x 60
5 x 80
5 x 90
5 x 100
2 x 110
5 x 100
5 x 90 close grip
8 x 80 close grip
10 x 70 close grip
Nothing to difficult tonight. No wrist pain tonight. Trying to attach a video of the 2 x 110.

Deadlift
5 x 70
5 x 100
5 x 120
5 x 140
3 x 160
1 x 180
3 x 160
10 x 120
No problems, good quick session over in 30 mins.

Cleans
5 x 35
5 x 45
3 x 55
1 x 65

Kevin and Stuart were squatting tonight so I am trying to attach short videos of them in action. First is Kevin doing 5 x 270 1/2 squats. Then it is Stuart with his 180. I hope they work.

Sounds like something I did last year. Check out post 34 at this link

http://www.powerliftinguk.com/showthread.php?t=3792&page=2

It took 3-4 weeks to get better but it was 3-4 months before full recovery.
Don't rush it like I did, take it easy.

Theres no stopping me now.

This is a side view of my 175 squat from a couple of months back. What do you think of the depth?

This is Kevins unequipped 285 lift from earlier this year, which at the time was a british senior record. I think it is still an M2 record (At 90 kilo b/w).

This is just a trial.
If it works, it is my deadlift from the EM Masters back in July.
My only comp to date.

Ed.
Just checked out Max's lifts from this years English champs.
A 118 kilo Snatch and a 151 kilo C&J. At 69 kilo body weight.
I've seen him squat 180 x 3 and bench 130 x 5 all un-equipped but i've never seen him deadlifting. He refuses to train or compete at powerlifting because he claims it will spoil his oly lifting.

£50 for an Inzer lever belt. That was a bargain. Mine cost nearly £80. But then it is XXXL compared to your medium. Seriously though, stick with it, it took me about 3 months to work mine into my gut grooves.

Hi Ed,
Max the Russian is currently visiting his father in Moscow, he should be back at the Farm from December 10. He recently represented GB for the first time at an international in Scandinavia and won it fairly easily.
Moldovan Denis only trains when Max is in town, so we should also see him back in December.

Monday 12th November.

Back to reality tonight. Weighed in at 118.9 kilos, not too bad after two weeks of food and alcohol abuse. A big crowd in tonight, over 20 lifters again, suddenly, with just 5 weeks to go before we are evicted we have become very popular.

Had a call from the council "sports / leisure and recreation group" today, they want to come and "have a look at us"? We've been in their premises for 14 years and they have just realised we are here. I won't complain too much just yet, they might just find us somewhere to move to, fingers crossed.

After 17 nights away from the gym. tonight was all about re-introducing myself to the bar. Kept the weights light and went for a bit of everything.

Front Squats
10 x 20
5 x 35
I do not like these, I cannot get the bar close enough to my chest.

Squats
5 x 70
4 x 90
3 x 110
2 x 130
1 x 150
Easy, all full squats right to the floor.

Bench
3 x 10 x 35 close / normal / wide
10 x 60
5 x 80
5 x 90
2 x 3 x 100
2 x 2 x 105
2 x 3 x 100
5 x 90 close grip
10 x 70 close grip
Nothing very difficult, except I was getting a sharp pain in my right wrist, nothing too serious I hope.

Cleans
10 x 25
5 x 50
2 x 1 x 70 failed both
1 x 60
Never tried these before but as Ed seems to be a fan I thought that I would give them a go. The 50's were easy but I could not get the 70's up, the bar was coming up to my chest but I was struggling to get my arms under it.

Deadlift
5 x 70
5 x 110
3 x 130
3 x 150
1 x 170
No problems.

I have now got the date for my next competition, it will be the BWLA East Midlands un-equipped on Feb 10th 2008. This will be my first competition as an M2 (50+), what's more I am looking to compete in the 110 kilo class, what are the chances of me losing 8.9 kilos in the next 14 weeks? According to my doctor I am clinically obese, so I am quite hopefull.

Alcohol free now for 3 days.

I've never really done these before Ed but I think that I will give them a go when I get back. Anything that might improve my crappy deadlift has to be tried.

Friday 2nd November.
Temperature topped 35 degrees all day.
Shoulders so burned I cannot even contemplate ever squatting again.
Got to be up early tomorrow for the Utd / Arsenal game. 8:30 AM kick off. Found a bar showing it live so rum with breakfast then.

Nice session Ed,
I found that my lever belt was painfull for a couple of weeks before I got used to it. Stick with it, I reckon the lever belt is the 2nd best thing since steak pie.

Good luck, I look forward to reading about your progress.
Where are you based?
