Billwest said:That seems a bold move Ian. The Masters is less than 9 weeks away, AND the EM classic 5 weeks after that. That's a tough schedule for someone with only a weeks training in the past 5 months.

My plan ATM is to train till the last week of August, take 2-3 weeks off, and then decide if I want to compete in WM divisionals in late November/early December

I'm not doing the British Masters this year Bill, i'm aiming for next year!

Wednesday 26th May.

10 lifters at the Farm.
Weighed in at 120.75kg, the diet is not going so well!

Squats.
2 x 5 x 20
5 x 60
4 x 80
3 x 100
2 x 115
1 x 125
1 x 135
3 x 105.
All good and deep.

Bench.
2 x 10 x 20
8 x 60
5 x 80
2 x 90
2 x 1 x 102.5
3 x 90
3 x 5 x 75 Close grip.
No problems.

Billwest said:Looks like we have fairly similar goals Ian. I think for me 500 will have to be a gym total.

Strangely, despite being in no condition to lift i've got the qualifying total for this years British from my last competition back in August 2019. However if i want to lift in the 2022 nationals i'll need to hit a 447.5 total this year, so my loose plan is to do the EM Masters this August and exceed 447.5!

Monday 24th May.

Just 4 lifters at the Farm.
Weighed in at 119.75kg (heavy weekend).

Squats.
2 x 5 x 20
5 x 50
4 x 70
3 x 90
2 x 110
1 x 120
1 x 130
3 x 100
Still not feeling right, knees not happy.

Bench.
2 x 10 x 20
8 x 60
4 x 80
2 x 90
2 x 1 x 100
2 x 90
3 x 5 x 72.5
No problems.

Friday 21st May.

Twelve lifters at the Farm, i've never seen it so busy!
Weighed in at 118.95Kg.
Still keeping everything light.

Deadlifts.
2 x 5 x 60
4 x 80
3 x 100
2 x 120
1 x 140
1 x 160
2 x 130
3 x 120.
No issues but the 160 was close to the current limit.

Bench.
10 x 20
8 x 60
4 x 80
2 x 90
1 x 100
2 x 90
3 x 5 x 70 Close grip.
More comfortable than i was expecting.

Back to squats on Monday.

Target for the rest of 2021 is to get closer to a 500 total again.
No competitions planned, however i might just have a run out at the EM Masters in August if injury free.

It hurts a lot Bill!

Wednesday 19th May.

Weighed in at 119.15kg. Unhappy
Eight lifters at the Farm and a good atmosphere, lot's of catching up was done!

Squat.
2 x 5 x 20
5 x 50
4 x 70
3 x 90
2 x 110
1 x 120
2 x 1 x 125
They got easier as the session progressed. No point in rushing it though.

Bench.
2 x 10 x 20
8 x 40
6 x 60
3 x 80
2 x 1 x 92.5
3 x 5 x 65 Close Grip.
It's going to be a long road...

Monday 17th May 2021.

First time back at the Farm in 147 days!
Absolutely no lifting of any sort has happened during lockdown.
Weighed in at 119.2kg. Much too fat.

Tonight's target was a paltry bodyweight squat, BW x 0.75 bench and BW x 1.25 deadlift.

Squat.
2 x 5 x 20
2 x 4 x 50
2 x 3 x 70
2 x 2 x 90
2 x 1 x 110
2 x 1 x 120.
Depressingly painful but handsomely deep.

Bench.
2 x 10 x 20
8 x 40
4 x 60
2 x 80
1 x 90
3 x 5 x 65 Close Grip.
No problems but not much more there.

Deadlift.
5 x 50
4 x 70
3 x 90
2 x 110
Left it there, i'm reasonably certain that a 150 was in me but i suddenly felt like vomitting so decided to skip the potential clean up job.

Very sore today.

You must have been awake for a week!

How long until we get SBD pants out on the market? I mean they already have socks, so why not IPF legal pants with a 7mm elasticated waist?

I'm sure pants must have been tabled at the development meetings!
Happy

Does your league inspect the pants, to ensure they are 100% Primark, and no one has tried to sneak M&S briefs through for premium elastic gains please? )

Of course pants are inspected at kit check.
M&S pants are generally a sign that the lifter in question is an over 50 Masters lifter.
CK briefs are also very popular...

I'm not planning on going anywhere for a while Ed, besides the Farm opens on Monday for the first time this year so i've got something to look forward to.

Interesting thread.

I'm from Northampton and as far as i can recall all the British Powerlifting referees from around here are male, Kevin Jane, Pete Weiss, Steve Walker and myself.

Pre-Pandemic, British Powerlifting had nearly 5,000 members, so larger than all the others combined and yes, it is probably the strictest fed with respect to rules and regs.

On the pants front Primark will do you 6 pairs of regulation pants for five quid, so not too expensive.

All that aside, if you are only lifting for fun my advice would be to lift in any fed you please, just enjoy yourself.

Friday 18th December.

Down to just 4 lifters at the Farm tonight. So many lifters complained about not being able to train during lockdown yet once we re-open they stay home or go to the Poundland gym.

Deadlifts.
2 x 5 x 70
4 x 110
3 x 130
2 x 145
2 x 155
2 x 162.5
2 x 150
5 x 130
This was the first proper deadlift session in 16 weeks and it was not comfortable, the first attempt at the 162 double saw me walk away after not budging it, took 2 minutes and got my head straight then ground out the double. According to the formerly famous Finch formula that equates to a single at 176Kg.

Bench.
12 x 20
8 x 60
5 x 80
2 x 100
1 x 107.5
3 x 92.5
2 x 5 x 80 Close Grip.
The 107.5 is a post covid PB so pleased with that.
