Welcome to my attempt at starting a journal, thought I would start by saying a little about myself.

I'm 24 years old, I started training last may after spending 8 months being a fat, lazy f*ck and thought it was about time I started doing some sort of exercise after stopping playing rugby. Originally started training more as a bodybuilder while trying to lose weight. After about 5 months of training I realised I wasn't really interested in bodybuilding and would rather be strong, that coupled with my discovery of twitter and speaking to amateur and professional strongmen made my mind up for me as I already was a fan of the sport. After getting some much needed training advice and the discovery of a gym near by that had strongman equipment I started training for strength in January this year. To say I had a poor basis was an understatement, I had rarely deadlifted with my PB being 160 kg, never squatted or really trained legs to be honest and my bench was about 110 kg.

If I haven't bored any of you to death yet, I have now started training events and my current stats are:

Height: just under 6' 4"

Weight: 135 kg (with more fat than I like to admit)

Deadlift: 240 kg

Squat: 160 kg but think I have at least 170 kg in me

Bench: 150 kg

Push Press: 110 kg

Strict Press: 80 kg

Log Press: 97 kg

One arm dumbbell press: 63 kg

I'm pretty new to events and log pressing so hoping to get my log press up soon. I've got my first competition this sunday 24th June so jumped in at the deep end but I am looking forward to competing and progressing.

Thanks for reading and I'll try to keep it as updated as possible. Unfortunately I haven't got any videos as yet but am hoping to soon.

Better now I'm training with some great blokes. If comp was tomorrow I'd no lift in both over head events which is not good lol

Don't worry about it I have no access to a block so will be going in having never done it. All adds to the fun I suppose.

So had my first competition on Sunday (24th June).

The events were:

7.5t slight uphill truck pull
380kg tyre flip
380kg chain drag
110kg farmers walk
Overhead Medley which consisted of a 85 kg log, 100 kg log and a 55 kg dumbbell
200 kg deadlift for reps - no straps allowed

I came 5th overall out of 9 competitors so was pretty pleased for my first attempt baring in mind I had never done the first 3 events. A few mistakes and inexperience cost me slightly but overall I was happy with my performance. Managed a few PBs so happy with them and all good experience going into future comps.

I haven't got all of my times or finishes but the ones I do know is:

Truck Pull - 2nd place with 3 inches
Tyre Flip - 5th with 59 secs
Chain Drag - 6th with 67 secs
Farmers Walk - between 25-32 secs with a drop
Overhead Medley - either 3rd or 4th with 47 secs
Deadlifts - 10 reps

Well done on Sunday! All the best people were fifth, plus you have the moral victory of knowing you actually deadlifted with a proper lockout.

Thank you and congratulations on your 5th place finish also. Indeed I was happy with my 10 reps beat my previous reps PB by 7.
