Back training properly after a week of rest and light sessions following my comp the Sunday before. As I've only got 5 weeks till my next comp meaning only 4 weeks of heavy training I have decided to do a cycle of Wendlers 531 as it is the only routine that I could find to fit in the timescale I have and have done a couple of cycles before, with overhead on a Monday, deadlifts Tuesday, squats Thursday, bench/deadlifts or overhead again on Fridays and throw in an events with ALWEBB72 in there somewhere.

Anyway, tonight's session was overhead press with an Olympic bar as unfortunately my usual gym does not own a log (or much other equipment to be honest).

My sets were as follows:

Warm-up:
5x50 kg
5x60 kg

Working Sets:
5x75 kg
5x80 kg
9x85 kg (which is a new reps PB)

Upright row:
8x40 kg
6x50 kg
5x60 kg

then moved on to some close grip bench my sets were:

8x85 kg
6x105 kg
4x125 kg
3x135 kg

after was straight bar pushdowns which I did 3 sets of 8 reps on the stack which i'm not quite sure of the weight followed by some core work which was:

side bends:

3x15 with 40 kg dumbbell (heaviest dumbbell they have)

Cable woodchoppers: 3 x 15 with about 15-20 kgs

Sit-ups: 3 x 15

Overall I was happy with the overhead reps PB but not so much with the assistance work. My close grip bench wasn't as good as usual and struggled a little more than I would have liked. Also i'm not sure if I am doing enough in a session? any suggestions?

f**k me! That truck was shifting some while you were doing the chain drag. Must have been some fast, strong, powerful, attractive yet flabby whilst also dashing, middle aged bald bas***d pulling that!!!
What are you 2 big strong Ginger beers doing Friday and where's my f**king invite? Xxx

You shouldn't be so modest Travis Grin I did notice that you was pulling at the same time and it did indeed look pretty fast as you left me and my chain in your dust! We are going to have a bit of an all in training session at the gym in Ipswich where the comp was if you are interested?

Hehe!
Ipswich has left me mentally scarred and scared, Mr Al took me to all the best places. Plus might be a tad far and expensive for a Friday after work. Let me know next time Colchester's on though. Had splendid fun last time.

Will do mate. It was indeed a very enjoyable and ground breaking session.

On tonight's agenda was deadlifts which is my personal favourite session of the week. As mentioned i am doing 531 for all of my lifts so deadlifting went as follows.

warm up:

10x100kg
8x140kg

working sets:

5x165kg
5x175kg
6x185kg (was not happy with this number at all!)

After my dismal attempt at deadlifting I moved on to assistance work starting with barbell rows.

8x60kg
8x80kg
5x90kg
5x100kg

Close grip lat pulldowns-
3x8x80kg

Hammer Curls:

8x20kg
2x8x25kg
2x5x30kg

So all in all a disappointing session but suppose something is better than nothing.

Yea I suppose mate but after getting 10 reps of 200kg at the comp I thought i'd smash 185kg but didn't have the energy.

Had limited time to train tonight so was only a quick session. Bench was on tonight's menu and this is how it went:

Warm up:

10x60kg
10x80kg

Working sets:

5x102.5kg
5x110kg
9x115kg

Nothing ground-breaking or spectacular but was happy as I haven't benched in a month or more, technique was a bit shaky but felt comfortable enough. Bench was followed by some incline barbell press which went:

10x60kg
8x80kg
4x100kg

followed by some core work:

weighted decline sit ups:

15x5kg
10x20kg
10x20kg

then 3 sets of planks for 30 seconds each.

Went to train with ALWEBB72 at Extreme Muscle gym in Ipswich. As always was a good and productive session. We started with bench which I managed:

1x120kg
1x130kg
1x150kg
160kg Fail!

We then moved on to push press:

1x80kg
1x90kg
1x110kg -FAIL
1x115kg which would have been a new PB but was failed in an epic and very loud way! No collars plus a lop sided lock attempt and the rest explains itself haha.

Finally squat which went:

1x100kg
1x120kg
1x140kg
1x170kg which was a new, very comfortable PB
1x200kg - FAIL!! Very annoying felt good in the descent but bottled it in the hole after getting it in my head 200kg was too big of a jump! This will now bug me on a daily basis till I manage to get it!

Overall a good session and got to be happy with a new PB.
