they could use some more novice entries for the next weeks comps, if you know anyone who would like to tip their toees in with such a short notice Grin

Events look good for the novice for anyone even with limited event training experience to just jump in.

Yeah, he beat me by 1 bloody point.

Not that I'm bitter.

This was my first comp, so not much to compare it to, but some of the events were tough. The log, as Shawn has pointed out, is very awkward. That said, it's the same for everyone and, at the end of the day, some of us just weren't strong enough (and knew it before the comp).

The deadlift was quite odd. To anyone doing the qualifier next week, have a look at your foot placement. I train there and I've used this apparatus before, so felt really confident; however, they had put a wooden block beneath it, and I just couldn't get any leverage. Felt like a right t**t.

Overall though, a good day, and a well-organised comp.

Would love to mate, but it's my wedding anniversary next weekend so don't think the missus would be too pleased!

goals:

1. place top 8

2. get the f**kING FARMERS UP!!!

3. not come last, Lee will get the farmers going, but might not get any reps ono DL and log, which means couple points head start to me which i will need to work back on the last 3 events. That should be fun Wink

Mick Towney (Spell ?? LOL)
Mick Ashurst
???Keith?? (New lad, very good performance in most events)
Joni (did pick the farmers up)Grin

Good Comp Two Mick battling it out for the top 2 places and only 2 points or so in it. 3 rd was guaranteed but the 4th was up for grabs with 3-4 lads after it in the last 2-3 events. Joni did great in the last 3 events and kept plugging away to gain back the points he needed and then some to secure his 4th place spot.

Mick Ashurst put in a very solid performance too. Really put on a show with the Dead-lift 16 reps ? Can't wait to see how he fairs in the final. Wink

Both Micks were awesome! In the league of their own!

my quick write up while waiting for food!

well, just got back from the comp. Great day, well run comp even if it did take a while, and a great crew of competetors and organisers!

It went more or less as i expected in a sense that i didnt get a rep with the log and the deadlift, but neither did host of other folk. I did get the farmers up, but didnt get very far.

Big suprise came from how well i did with the last three events, arm over arm, carry and drag and crucifix hold, nailed 4th, 3rd and 2dn place i think respectively.

So i got 4th place overall and qualified to the finals. Not quite sure what to think now! Plan was to back right down and all that, but f**k, i qualified. Part of me thinks i dont deserve the place because not nailing a rep with the deadlift and the log, and the guys who did qualify are proper strongmen! On the other hand, its an honour to be in a comp with those guys and even placing last at the finals would not be something to be ashamed of.

Let me have a ponder...

Actually, i am pretty glad that i have such glaring weaknesses like the deadlift - the off season plan is simple and will target those. It seems like i could do ok in some comps if i fix those.

Massive thanks to folk who gave support and help during the day, especially Shawn who gave loads of really ace tips and advice for the events. Honestly think his advice meant fair few points more today, thanks mate!

Also have to mention that i felt like a new man today after a proper week off (had my sisters over from finland which meant no sneaking to the gym etc). I felt healthy, no pains and niggles and it definitely showed today. Need to take lessons from this.

I'll post the full results when they appear online.
