BobSadler | Spousal Support | 16-09-2011 @ 15:17
not old ..... experienced. Member 170, 517 posts SQ 270, BP 180, DL 270720.0 kgs @ 125kgs Eq | This should probably be entitled lack of spousal support. According to my wife our marriage is on the brink because I'm addicted to power lifting. As I train 3 times per week and compete in masters competitions 2 to 3 times a year I seriously doubt if I'm addicted to anything including whey protein which is apparently a well known drug. Does anybody else get this sort of grief from there our half's? If so how do you deal with it?

403 forbidden message Member 160, 5121 posts SQ 190, BP 137.5, DL 225552.5 kgs @ 86kgs UnEq | Find a spouse from the gym - problem sorted. Mine is pretty supportive, food, diet, training, competitions, all the other stuff that comes with powerlifting. She's not a lifter at all, just one of those who trains to keep fit and make sure she can eat what she likes without gaining weight.

I understand why she doesnt like me training as its because she wants to spend time with me but she also understands Im going to do it so no point fighting.

I train and compete a similar amount, and would say that to an extent I am addicted to exercise. If I dont train I feel worse and am grumpy and stressed etc. As soon as I go back training it goes away. If that is all the time it is taking up then I think she should count herself lucky that you are not laying around the pub playing pool or darts all the time, or away every weekend and many midweeks following a football team. Does she have anythign she likes to do, if so, compare the time spent and try to explain why it is no different. My ex resented me going to the gym, and it was a constant strain. it was just one of many problems though. As for the protein, you should be able to educate her on that, as whey is basically the part of milk they dont use when making cheese.

either Im a penis or Im not a penis Member 722, 2977 posts SQ 300, BP 220, DL 350870.0 kgs @ 123kgs UnEq | I did. So I eventually left, 10 years n 2 kids together. I provided a more than adequate roof over her head. She didn't have to work. This amongst a couple of other things started to get out of control. So I left her, she begged n pleaded but enough is enough. Now I'm happy with a younger model who supports me whole heartedly. I miss not seeing my boys everyday but not that evil cow. Life is black n white if you want it to be. It wasn't easy but the best thing I e ever done. With my ex it was jealousy. If they love u they will support u whatever u choose to do

Still got a little bit of strength Member 400, 22058 posts | She dislikes it, but I normally train when she's at work, so it's not a problem at all.

Scotbasher - forever Member 59, 2115 posts | When my then girlfriend asked "how long do people compete, do they retire at 30?" I said there's still a few lifting in their 60's and 70's. She said Enjoy it whilst you still can because you won't always be allowed to do it! Suffice to say the current one is far more supportive! I know some complain about it but there's far worse things you could be doing and I bet they don't really want you sat in watching soap operas every night?

normal people, like me. Member 2325, 550 posts | Post Edited: 16.09.2011 @ 16:34 PM by IainT Lifting isn't my life, and I don't compete, but have to say I wouldn't tolerate comments along the lines of "not being allowed" to do something I enjoy. Training two hours five days a week I can see might be a problem, especially if there are kids. Then again, I'm single, so what the f**k do I know. Not just women either, I can't stand the way that many people in relationships seem to nag and manipulate to achieve what they want out of the relationship, or to change the others behaviours. Mind you, most women I know just do not get weight training. My mother and my sister-in-law went on at the weekend about not wanting 'big muscles' after they were talking about some exercise fad and I told them that the weights in my garden are there for them any time.
