Log press - 110kg This was a REALLY awkward log! Handles were close, and a lot of the weight seemed to be between your hands. Managed 2 reps, and failed to lock out a third. As it turns out there were 6 guys who no repped, several on 1, and a few on 2. 5 was mega and I think 7 won. 2 reps, 16th place 2. 16" Deadlift - 250kg As usual, fancied a few points on the deadlift. Was cool having Andy Bolton as my ref I have to say! Went off at a good pace, and managed to maintain it throughout, with only 2 brief 3 breath pauses. Smashed it with 15 reps. Rushed to get the last rep in before the whistle, locked it out a second before the whistle, got the rep and then passed out. Just ran out of oxygen. 15 reps, =2nd place 3. Sandbag loading - 95, 100, 110kg sacks 15m to 56" platform Didn't really know how this would go, just attacked it and loaded all of them in 25 seconds, no hiccups. 3 sacks, 25secs, about 10th 4. Car Deadlift Hold Apparently 340 - 370kg in the hands, so knew it would be hard but not quite how hard! Squeezed it off the floor smoothly and settled in. The weight bearing down through my back injury was agony though, threw up quite early on, so was shaking like crazy with orange sports drink and froth spilling over my chin and down my shirt lol! Fought through for 30.5 seconds which turned out to be pretty good. 30.5 seconds, 9th 5. Overhead Medley - 75kg Dumbell, 95kg sandbag, 110kg keg, 120kg axle Before I'd seen the implements I'd fancied getting 3 out of the 4. However the sandbag looked horrible, the dumbell was LONG, and the keg was an awkward shape! Everyone was struggling, with the exception of a couple of guys, and i decided to hit the axle first. Continental cleaned it, but my back folded over my belt as I caught it on my chest, felt like being hit in the back with an axe! Had to drop it, threw my belt away and tried (and failed) to power clean it. Rushed to try and get a rep on the sandbag but just failed to lock it out. I was f**kING LIVID. Zero reps, along with about 8 others though I think. 0 Reps, 0 points. At this point the cut off was made and the top 10 were going through to do stones. I was convinced I was in 12-14th place, well inside my top half target, so was quite happily coming down sat on the floor drinking pop while my back reminded me it was broken. Then Carl came wandering over to say 'you're in tenth, first up on stones'. My first reaction was WOOOOO TOP 10! AWESOME! Then I realised I wasn't prepared in the slightest haha! Kelvin tackied me up and gave me a good slap to wake me up again, and off I went to go again! 6. Atlas stones. 140kg over 56" Yoke. Loading has been going well, and this time tacky posed no issues, kept a steady pace and got 6 reps. Really pleased as this is a huge PB. As soon as i stepped away from the yoke, all the energy and adrenalin dropped out of me and I hit the deck again. Twice in one day lol! 6 reps, 7th / top 10 Sadly this didn't get me quite enough points to bump me up a place, so finished in 10th. Absolutely over the moon as I surpassed my expectations again with some really good performances and taking some points off some great lifters. I could have done no more than I did, and pushed myself as much as I ever had. Still learned a few things today, and look forward to working more on my weaknesses, and creeping ever closer to the podium... Big thanks go to Kelvin and Helen who supported me throughout and helped me do so well. And ENORMOUS thanks to my training partner Sophie, as always couldn't have done it without you. Thanks to all the guys who turned out to supprt me, and to Brian Shaw for making me feel tiny! Well done to Luke on a great victory, and to Hixxy who pushed him close! Thanks to Denny and Felix for a great comp. Happy happy Dave.

Wales strongest man 2012 Member 548, 1197 posts SQ 300, BP 195, DL 360855.0 kgs @ 128kgs Eq | here's my write up I was really looking forward to this comp, my training had gone well in the run up to it I was completly injury free and feeling very confident. 1st event 110kg log press: i'd had 8 in training so thought i'd have done well with this but after the first 3-4 reps i was blowing really hard got the 5th and cleaned the 6th but time ran out before i could finish off the press. Think i was joint 4th with about 4-5 others 2nd event was 250kg deadlift for reps: i'd had 14 in training and again felt confident going into it i got 15 reps couldn't have done anymore my reps were as quick as they could have been, you had to wait at the bottom for the ref to call lift before each rep and i lifted for the whole 60 seconds joint 2nd with 2 others i think. 3rd event was the loading race 3 sand bags 95kg 100kg 110kg did this in 24 secs which got me 4th though i went head to head with luke on this and apparently it was a photo finish between us yet he got 22 seconds 4th event was the car hold i'd been doin well in this in training done 180 farmers hold for 30 seconds so initially i felt confident but after testing it they said we could use straps so this messed with my head a little, after seeing hixxy do 60+ seconds with it i thought it couldn't be too bad how foolish was i, this was hell i managed 32 second of agonising pain which got me top 5 so not too bad. 5th was the overhead medley i wasn't looking forward to this at all my overhead work has been shokingly bad in recent months, i knew the sand bag and keg would be the easiest so did them first then did the axle which went ok and i left the dumbell as i'd tried it a few times in the warm up and really struggled with it so with time running out i decided to save my energy for the stones i was in 3rd place overall after tihs event 10 points ahead of 4th and 12 point behind hixxy in 2nd so it didn't matter how i fared in the stones i would have been 3rd but stones is my event and wanted to take an event win. I got into a really good rhythm and blasted 8 and could have kept goin got my 9th but the whistle went just as i dropped it over the bar, there were 3 others that got 8 but i beat them on time. there was a bit of confusion during the awards being given out as the scoring had been messed up and they called rich scott out as 3rd place and give the one to watch trophy to mike brown as he came joint 3rd but after a quick recount denny realised the mistake unfortunatly tho rich had already gone so if anyone knows rich tell him i want my trophy lol
