cheers Ian!

first proper training session of the year today ,was nice to get back lifting!

Bench press 80k 3/3/3/3/3
push press 60k 5/5/5
lying dumbell press 20k 10/10/10
dumbell skullcrushers 20k 6/6/6

added dumbells to the training schedule as i'm really weak off my chest ,I ve decided to bench twice a week
this year in the hope that it helps move my miserable bench press on a bit,its just gone backwards since about July last year!

operation squat started today, have decided to do some higher rep stuff for a few weeks before going on to 5's,did eights today and it was f**king evil did'nt actually puke after the last set but there was definitely a bit of dry heaving action!

squat 100k 8/8/8
good mornings 80k 8 85k 6 90k 4
power clean from hang bar 10/10/10 60k/2 70k/2 80k/2
sit ups 20k with 10 second hold 3/3/3
crunches 50

did loads of power cleans with just the bar trying to concentrate on catching it on my shoulders with my elbows up,worked really well with no weight on the bar ,but I noticed the elbows started to drop as the weight went on ,still it was an improvement on previouse form and Rome was'nt built in a day!

spent a bit of timesquatting down with just the bar and holding right at the bottom of the squat ,I hope this will eventually improve my flexibility and make hitting depth easier!

benching at yardley Gobion on wednesday ,so hoping for some good tips from the likes of Mr Kinghorn!

You've discovered the secret of OL Ed, and thats that there is no secret. Do it and do some more. It's sometimes boring. It's always graft, but its the only way

cheers Tom,

Andy definitely agree repitition is the key I've decided not to bother doing heavy power cleans from now on I'm just going to go light and get the technique sorted then worry about the weight!

trained at yardley gobion power lifting club today, and found myself benching with Ian Kinghorn and another guy who went up to 190 unequipped before having his first go in a shirt! was a bit embarrasing as i think they spent more time taking weight off for me and putting it back on again than they did actually benching!
the new guy was a weird looking fella as he obviously didnt train his legs at all his chest and upper body was f**king massive ,but he had teeny weeny itty bitty legs!

Bench press 80k 5 90k 3/3/2 needed touch for 3rd 80k 5

lying dumbell press 22.5 /10 25/ 8 30/ 6

jerks 50k/2 60k/2 70k/2 80k/1

skull crushers 30k 10 35k/8 40k/6

dumbell curls 20k 10/10/10

face pulls and cubans x loads

was onlyu going to do 80k 5x5 but embarassment made me up the weight to 90k in hindsite I'm pleased I did

It wasn't me. I've got an alibi. What did Ian go up to raw before he put his shirt on, Ed? Wonder who the other guy is. Sounds strong. What did he look like? Weight class?

ian went up to 160 raw for a single ,then 195 with the shirt for 3 , I did'nt catch the other fella's name
weight class wise I would say he was either top end 110's or lower end 125's and probablt mid to late 30's
in age, He was having his first lesson in a shirt, very strong presser especially since he was pretty tall
with quite long arms!

Cheers Ed. Ian joins me in the M2s next year. The other guy sounds very much like Steve Demeis - an M2 that looks about 30! Good guys to train with.

Thought it would have to be Steve Demeis, Ed, to be that strong and never used a shirt before. Steve lifted raw in Germany in the World Masters and was applauded off the stage after each lift by the whole loading crew - the only person they did that for all week. Great lifter, really nice guy.

deadlifts 160x5 165x4 170x3 tried to really concentrate on keeping my arse down and driving with my legs,
managed to do this with the first two sets pretty well, but the third rep on 170 if I kept my arse down it just would'nt budge ,so reverted to heaving it up with my back and up it came, not sure how to progress with the deads as at the moment if I use s**t technique I can lift more weight than if I use the correct technique, maybe I should use less weight for a bit untill my legs get stronger!

front squats started using the olympic grip as i read in somone elses journal it improves the receiving position for cleans!

60kx1 60kx1 felt really painfull and uncomfortable got the arse and binned the training went inside thought about it for a bit and realised that if I bin off every time I have a s**t session I'm never
going to get any stronger, went back to the squat rack and did 60k x10 70k x8 80k x6, and I'm really glad I did as the olympic grip although pretty painfull at first got easier and better with each set ! ( dont get me wrong I'm not saying it was comfortable but definintely easier than at the begining)

pleased i dogged it out and finished the session, sometimes its hard to motivate yourself when your training on your own outside in the dark!
