I think he's going to end up BDFPA only, because he just doesn't want to put a shirt on and seems happier lifting raw.

Old Age Presser Member 75, 7745 posts SQ 0, BP 200, DL 200400.0 kgs @ 105kgs Eq | Tonight was a struggle. Everyone in the gym seemed to be struggling tonight. Shrugs - sets of 10 with 10, 12, 14, 16, 18. Upright Rows - sets of 10 with 4, 5, 6, 7. Felt a tweak so didn't try a set with 8. Dips Machine - sets of 10 with 10, 12, 15, 17. Facepulls - sets of 10 with 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. Triceps Pressdowns - sets of 10 with 40, 50, 60, 70, 80. Shoulder Horn - 3 sets of 20 with 7s; 3 sets of 10 with 10s Couldn't be arsed doing any cardio, so chewed the fat for half an hour with various people and then left.

Old Age Presser Member 75, 7745 posts SQ 0, BP 200, DL 200400.0 kgs @ 105kgs Eq | Not really a proper workout today, but I'll record it anyway. Was at NW Training Day at Colne. Played around with different band settings, and was given some food for thought. Bryn and Jim's setup is probably more scientific than mine, but mine, by accident rather than design I might add, seems more suited to my lifting plane. But their's might suit my training partners better! Warmed up and did 100 for 3, 120 for 3, 140 for 2. 150 for 1 and failed 160. Not really geared up for lifting heavy today. Don't know whether to do my normal Monday or not. See how I feel tomorrow.

Old Age Presser Member 75, 7745 posts SQ 0, BP 200, DL 200400.0 kgs @ 105kgs Eq | Glad you enjoyed the bands Joni. They're an acquired taste. Tonight's workout... Warm up to 125 for 3, then 5 sets of 3 with 145. One purple band on and 100 for 5, 110 for 5, 120 for 5, 110 for 5, 100 for 5. And that was that. Why are the ones that are so easy to write up the ones that are so bloody hard work? Really, tonight was almost two sessions in one. Five threes with 145 is pretty much a workout. 5 heavy fives with a band is pretty much a workout, so I guess I got some good volume in today. Every single rep with 145 felt hard, but Little Dave, who can come out with some very sagacious comments from time to time, reckoned my technique got me through and my lockout has really improved. Nice to hear, and I've got to agree with him. My form feels more solid than it ever has before. The first four sets on 145, I think there was another one there, but in the fifth set I was gone after three. The 120 set with the band was mega-hard. The fifth rep took every fibre of my being to lock it out but I did it. (Sorry to Dave if he reads this for how I requested that he not touch the bar!) I'm staying away from the shirt until after Bradford on the 15th, then it's all out shirt work from early January until the BWLA Bench (second weekend in March in Stan Macrow's place). Going to try and go 160 second lift in Bradford. I was knackered before I went in tonight and only really came to life after the second set with 145, so I've got to be pleased with that.

Old Age Presser Member 75, 7745 posts SQ 0, BP 200, DL 200400.0 kgs @ 105kgs Eq | Thanks lads. Carl, I did a "gym lift" of 162.5 last year before I damaged my shoulder. I did a pretty good 160 last Monday - so good in fact that I went for a second, which I didn't get. But I only count comp lifts as pbs, and I hope to get 160 in Bradford on 15th December. I think it's there, because I can do a triple with 150. Time will tell...

Old Age Presser Member 75, 7745 posts SQ 0, BP 200, DL 200400.0 kgs @ 105kgs Eq | Thanks Henny. Bands have already helped me with all aspects of the lift - explosiveness off the chest, lock out strength and general technique - and I've only been using them since late September. I know you can't just go on improving, but I feel that another six months of band work will promote a level of improvement that I just won't achieve otherwise. And I'm really just a weak bugger who's worked hard for years and then found out how to work smart!

Old Age Presser Member 75, 7745 posts SQ 0, BP 200, DL 200400.0 kgs @ 105kgs Eq | Cheers Iain. It was brutal. Still feel f**cked. Triceps feel wrecked almost a day later. Don't normally get that. Maybe the NW training day took it's toll, but tbh I didn't do much there other than talk and adjust Fruitie's clothing. Having a rest day today to let everything repair/recover. I'll fit in some gayness tomorrow.

Works lekker. | ||

Old Age Presser Member 75, 7745 posts SQ 0, BP 200, DL 200400.0 kgs @ 105kgs Eq | Hi Henny. I've used chains and boards in the past, but just find bands much, much better. You can vary the resistance much better with bands than with chains, plus they're more portable. I find boards great for breaking in bench shirts and doing "light" equipped benching, but the bands mimic the equipped lockout movement so much better than the boards, because you're not working lockout from a static start. Others might have a different experience, but that's my take on it.
