I hope so. If I had kept up my first 200m split, I would have been comfortably under 3 minutes, and honestly, I was trying to pace myself. I didn't really realise how quick I'd come out the blocks.

As a point aside, how do I post photos on this forum? I take photos of the monitor after each rep, but have no idea how to post them on this archaic forum.

The 432m was on slides which are allowed in CTC. The advantage of slides are that you can rate slightly higher as the bungee pulls the erg back underneath you for the next stroke and it also becomes more quad dominant and less back - here's a video of that effort below so people can see what the slides do:

I didn't know that was on slides. Guess they're equally insane performances, in that case.

We just need Big Phil to join up and Terry to break the 500m WR when he finds a C2 to complete the awesomeness of this thread.

Oh yeah and Tom Stoltman to do a 100m.

At the moment my training is a bit mixed between discus throwing and indoor rowing so I wouldn't exactly say I'm someone to copy!

In terms of rowing I'm doing three sessions a week, two sprint focused and one longer steady row. A few months ago my sprint sessions would be something like 3x250 with 7:00 rest, or 350/250/200 with 7:00 rest, but more recently leading up to BRIC I've been putting in lots of single effort rate capped pieces like 500m at r20, or 1:00 at r26 etc, to try and improve stroke efficiency using SPI as a metric.

In the weight room I'm just cycling through three sessions.. legs, push and pull.

And, throwing my plates twice a week on top of that! Happy

This is always an interesting discussion about strongmen and 500m rowing. I've seen Terry's comments at the beginning of this thread. I expect he could go sub 1:15 with reasonable ease, and I'd love to see him put down a fast time.

But, 1:10 is a big jump from 1:15. Chad Wesley Smith did 1:14.4, and Brian Shaw 1:14.6 as far as I'm aware.

I will just add there is a whole 200 watts difference between 1:15 (820W) and 1:10 (1020W), and that's +25% extra force required as the watts curve means the extra power needed goes up quickly as the splits get lower.

Bearing in mind that Big Phil is already a physical specimen practically designed for the event, I would struggle to put any money on anyone from other sports beating his world record!

I am not after copying you, I think it would be hard to copy 20 years younger and a foot taller!

But am interested in the type of training you do. Whats your Discuss pb? (with a 2kg no Perris Wilkins here!)

I agree with you regarding Terry and the 500m I guess we haven't seen him do it for a reason.
