Thanks Bod. That's nice to know. Half serious is making things pretty interesting from my experience. It's a nice amalgam of dead serious and not bothered. All the benefits and non of the down sides.Happy

Life after lifting for sure!

The thing about all this stuff is that it's highly addictive and also very good for your physical and mental wellbeing. One of my wife's colleagues went from a fat, depressed, near-alcoholic to running the Oxford half in 1:30 last weekend! This guy used to laugh at me and call my gym antics a waste of my life. He's now obsessed with exercise.

Keep it up!

10 years ago I would have like to have been fat, depressed and near alcoholic. It's scary looking back how far off the main drag I was. lol. 1:30 is an impressive half. He should be well chuffed with that.
I don't think it's exercise in itself that I enjoy so much as doing stuff. Doesn't matter if I have to fly there, run, cycle, paddle, walk or masturbate furiously. If I enjoy it nowadays that's all the reason I need.
Keep it up!

Thanks Sam.

Fair play mate. Having fun is what it's all about. I went running yesterday for the first time in a while and I spent the whole 42 or so minutes thinking 'I want to be on my bike'. So guess what, from now on I'm sticking to the cleats for most of my training and bringing out the running trainers only when the bike is broken or the weather too crap to ride a bike safely. Running has its place with its simplicity and pure efficiency but no one has enough time to do stuff they don't like.

Oli (the lad I was on about) wants to do Oxford to Cambridge with me by bike in the spring. I thought I was going to whoop his ass but if he's got the sort of engine on him capable of a 1:30 half...

Unless he rides a bike regularly, you'll whoop his arse.

I've seen a lot of very good runners get humbled on a bike, thinking they wouldn't. It just doesn't seem to carry over anywhere near as much as say rowing.

I think that works in most cases. The best way to get good at something generally speaking is to do more of it.

Back to it.

Press
20 x 5
40 x 5
50 x 3
60 x 3
70 x 3

Snatch grip DL
60 x 5,5,5
80 x 5,5 Last set reminded me I have hamstrings.

Bench
50 x 5
70 x 5
90 x 5,5,5

Chins
bwt x 3,3,3,3,3

I like your range of athletic interests...I also like your theory of Half-Seriousness - in fact it sounds like just about the most ideal way to prepare for something.

I'm reading a book on Chess at the mo, and one of the main themes as to how to achieve success in that most mental of games is to play like it means everything but win or lose like it meant nothing, which I suspect is a concept you would be able to get behind.

Forget Garmin so it was wild running today.
Warrington Park Run 28:57
2 seconds a K off pb pace. That's not even a long fart.

Good stuff. Look forward to it.

9 or so weeks left of this year, and all in all it's been a good one. Goals are taking shape for next year, but I need to make sure they're well spread across all the principles of fitness. Suspect there will be a bit of duplication of this year I've enjoyed it all that much.

Took Felicity out for a 20 miler for the first time in a while. Felt good, but unfortunately the guys at Evans did a great job in dealing with the occasional clicking around the crank now clicks every turn. On the plus side I gave my neighbour a telly yesterday and he was pretty grateful. My neighbour fixes bikes Grin

You're either a human metronome who can cast the Garmin to the wind...or in the "Afterglow" of the Half you're due a *major* drop in time.

Hopefuly both.

Here's hoping Chris.

Bag
5 x 2 min rounds upped the work rate and felt it

Bench clean grip
60 x 5
90 x 3
100 x 5
90 x 5
80 x 5
70 x 5
60 x 5

Power clean (I know right)
40 x 3,3,3
80 x 3
90 x 1
100 x 1
110 x 1

Did a bit of coaching then. The only PBs I can get on weights are other peoples, and that's ok.
