When I first considered it opted in I set myself the target of 2:30. This was before I'd done a 30m 5k and 60m 10k. Now I've done these I'd like to take at least 10 minutes off the original goal. 2:15 I reckon would trigger a pigs orgasm that could endure till December.

Pads
5 x 2 min rounds 40 secs rest

Bench
50 x 5
70 x 5
90 x 3
110 x 3
90 x 5,5,5,5,5

Run home from work
9.6 mile 1:50ish

Getting disciplined with the diet again and whatever weaknesses I'm good at being disciplined. Usually takes a couple of days to start the process, and a couple after that for the loose weight to fall off. Then it slows down. I'm looking forward to this.

If only your sulky run had been 10seconds slower. 5 miles in 55:55 must be worth something.

Marian after being unable to run or walk (or sleep) without hip pain all year is finally able to do a bit and is hoping to do the Thames Half at the end of the month.

Brilliant news. It's not a bad state of fitness when you struggle all year and are still able to put up a half. Hopefully she'll be on the mend and put this spell behind her.

I'm finding that there is a level of understanding and respect by only trying something yourself. A single good or bad experience can be worth a lifetime of theory. Better to get out there and have a go.Happy

A session I've been doing over roughly the distance of your run home is a mile easy, 6 or 7 miles at goal pace and another mile or so to finish. If for example you are able to hold 10 min miles for 7 miles after work should manage that for the full half rested on race day.

Thanks for the input guys. A 2:30 is a shade over 7min/k pace which has been a safe target and 2:15 is I believe 6:23 which is ambitious. I trained to overload myself and effectively run tired until about 10 days out, ease off a touch a do fewer but faster runs. Seems to be working out. Also, Steve's kick up the arse regarding my weight was a massive boost. Tidied up the diet and lost the loose weight and down to 86.5 in the morning. Will bring this down to under 85 for the day because it is quite noticeable.

2:15 is quite doable for you - as it's your first I would still say take it pretty easy over the first half and run the second half strong (a Half is still a long time to suffer if you get it wrong Happy ).

As for the weight...strap a couple of yellow to Mo Farah and see how fast he goes....!!

Remembered by tag today so it counts, but forgot my Garmin so I was blind and lonely apart from the young ladies who seemed to form a protective barrier around me for most of the way. Anyway, figured I was on for a fast one, but really struggled getting out of bed this morning. Anyway, managed a 29:22 which is about 6-7 seconds a k off PB time. Happy with that for now. Bwt 87K. Happy with that too.

Thanks Chris. 2:15 for me is ambitious, and you're right, it's a long way for something to go wrong. My head is at trying to hold that pace for as long as I can and see where I'm at. I know I can do it for 15k, but another 6 after that is where the fun starts.
