If you had to get a bench centre handed off by a naked chick where would you prefer them to be from?

I do not.

Better to be on a cross channel ferry with a slight leak than in a row boat without one.

Plus we are Europeans. Too dim to drive kilometres, drink beer in half litres, buy trousers and jackets in centimetres or buy jam in anything other than multiples of 454g but Europeans none the less.

I'll be interested to see how the media handle this moving towards any potential referendum.

Sensationalism sells, and much of the anti EU rhetoric over the last 15 years has been whipped up by the media finding extreme examples that they believe will provoke anti EU sentiment - European commission rulings, immigrants on 'generous' benefits, lack of uk sovereignty etc.

That's all well and good, but if it looks like a referendum may have us leaving, they may be forced to change their tune somewhat, given that their owners may have vested interests in us staying.

Have to own up that I would like GB to leave the EU.

You lot are seen as a massive barrier to European integration in Ireland. I think the inability of the EU to come up with a decent foreign policy (particularly to deal with terror as one block) and deal with banking is largely a product of UK aligning itself both militarily and financially with corporate America instead of its EU partners. Cameron is one of the biggest proponents of TTIP which looks like a lot of s**t from wikileaks documents I've read (taxpayers paying damages for business's loss of earnings through insisting on good regulation in industry and finance.)

Maybe if GB leaves the EU will be able to deal with banking crisis without UK veto-ing that hurts the City of London by tackling s**t like this www.theguardian.com/business/2012/jul/21/offshore-wealth-gl...

As an English speaking country Ireland is also hoping we'll pick up a lot of your American technology, pharma and investment sector (though I guess most of the EU is.)

That said since Blair you've had a democracy like USA where the two main parties fight for the same space in big corporations pockets. Maybe if Corbin can get in as opposition your country may start to debate the scale of inequality between a City of London nurse and investment banker as out of kilter with a healthy community.

Conservatives have said they wish to stay in a reformed EU.
I think the scale of cuts announced since the election are going to make them less popular year by year as they remain in government. With this in mind they are moving forwards the referendum to stand a chance of winning without the referendum 'Out' campaign turning into a massive protest vote against austerity.

as big a critic as I am of UK policy and the banking sector, if you focus the blame for Ireland's woes on them and hope that the rest of europe will save you from the evil brits I think you will be disappointed.

I dont know what your views on the treatment of greece are but, if Ireland were to vote in an anti austerity party and refuse to tow the 'group formerly known as the troika's line, it would be crushed in just the same way as syriza has been. the evidence is clear, if you are in debt to them, you have to do as they 'advise', or else. and in terms of debt, Ireland is a pretty big hitter. I guess if you wanted to look at it positively you could call brussels running of Ireland's economy 'increased european integration'.

and on a side note I dont see germany or france being any less aligned with corporate America (or the anglo american banking system for that matter) than the UK is. TTIP is backed by the whole of the european establishment. so as much of an evil turd camron is, I think its slightly unfair to entirely saddle him with the blame for it.

"Already in November 2014, Greece’s privatization company Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF) had declared Fraport-Slentel Consortium as the “preferred bidder” stating that its offer was “significantly higher” than the second best bid. The offers for the tender were submitted in October 2014."

Makes perfect sense once you ditch the 'Germans are evil' rhetoric really.

do you think it is just a coincidence that a german led bid to enforce privatization of greece's most valuable assets has led to a german company taking over all of its best airports? do you think that it is possible that this deal may, instead of helping the greek people pay their (unpayable) debts, serve only to transfer profits, from greece's most profitable industry, out of greece and into germany?

you are mistaking my rhetoric. europes political elite, be they german, french whatever, are quite happy to suck the wealth out of europes's periphery and strongarm it politically. it just happens to be that germany are on top of the pile at the moment.
