Why not just not get fat in the first place? Member 132, 1406 posts SQ 331, BP 200, DL 320851.0 kgs @ 98kgs UnEq | macroth said: Since you asked, I obliged and pulled 14.2 today (1:11.0/500m, 55spm) Ha ha nice work! Couple of Q's... What Drag Factor do you have it at? Have you tried a few different rowers? Do you use your legs?

What Drag Factor do you have it at? 185. I might try max drag next time (which is probably upwards of 200 on my machine). Have you tried a few different rowers? Not recently, no. There's only the one (mine) at the gym. A well-maintained erg will probably be, or at least feel, faster than a busted erg with a creaky chain and a loose shock cord, especially over such a short distance. I also put a stack of weights in front of and behind the rower to make sure it doesn't budge. Do you use your legs?Yes, very much so, but I use a shortened stroke: less compression at the catch, and less layback at the finish.

no longer the Swiss Deadlift record holder Member 3517, 3367 posts SQ 182.5, BP 122.5, DL 255560.0 kgs @ 90kgs UnEq | Lever positions don't correspond exactly to drag factors. A dirty flywheel, other ergs in use nearby, placing the erg near a wall, and other things can affect the drag factor. You can check the drag factor in the "More options" menu. http://www.concept2.com/indoor-rowers/training/tips-and-genera... I usually use a high (180+) df for very short sprints like 100m, 150+ for a 500m, maybe 140 for a 1k, and 125-135 for 2k and anything above. In fact, I only keep a close eye on the df when I'm training for or racing a 2k. For the shorter stuff, I go a bit by feel. If I'm doing a training piece, I use the df that I would use for the race distance that I'm training for. I.e., if I'm doing 8x500m as part of my training for a 2k, I'll use a df of 130, not 150.

It depends on your rowing style I suppose. Cheers for the info, as I expected really. Shorter strokes with a high SPM are a must over the short distances that's certain. I'd even try upping your SPM and reducing seat movement more and see what happens.
