All of these things help tp contribute to the type of person who goes to watch a football match verus other sports. I dont blame football for that. I blame the people.

Yes, but in countrie which have other sports as the number one spectator sport, that sport does not have the same violent fan problems as football generally does. I agree the problem is people, it just seem that those people are more likely to use football as an excuse for bad behaviour than other sports.

Really? I stayed in the US for a while and never at any time encounterd this. Most of the events were not even segregated, and to be honest I found spectators at sports in the US to be much more sedate than anywhere else. Perhaps it is different in different parts of the country, but its not like that in the North East for sure

Interesting, I had left by then and was unaware of any of these. They seem to have a liking for setting fire to things. Makes for sad reading, this kind of mob behaviour spoils sporting ocassions for the majority

King of the impossible Member 3130, 2082 posts SQ 310, BP 200, DL 310820.0 kgs @ 85kgs UnEq | Those saying that fans are not segregated or violent towards players in rugby have obviously never played against Queens, Featherstone or Thatto Heath. Again though this is in the lower divisions (1, 2 and 3) of the national leagues. I find it interesting that in super league fans are generally segregated but then we have the challenge cup final and magic weekend and fans are integrated. Also in rugby league in Australia the fans are not segregated but things do go on between fans (fights etc, seen it with my own eyes in melbourne and at origin). like Olly said its just a smaller concentration of people so doesn't normally get publisised. P.s - I love football, its ace.

The match got called off after 10 minutes following a fight between our entire team and their entire taem and spectators. It happened after our prop punched one of their spectators when he called him 'a stupid f**king paki' (there had been at least 4 fights in the first 10 minutes). Having played at Harlow also, I can see this happening quite easily. Southend are also particularly violent and mouthy.

You seem to blame those things on football. It's my view that it has very little to do with football and much more to do with basic human nature. Football is just an easy way for people to develop a sense of belonging and to be part of something, which I believe most humans crave. If I dont agree, I say, that's part of a discussion to me. It doesnt matter whether it is you or anyone else! For me, it is far too easy to blame football. Now if you had picked other things, like player interaction with referees, the lack fo retrospective action, diving, faking injury, I would have supported your view 100%! I just dont think football and violence are anywhere near as linked as you do.
