Unit 20 First Timers Strongman Competition

Arrived around 10:30 and minced around trash talking trying not to get more stressed or start warming up too soon. First event was axle so did couple of warmups on the empty axle and then with 50kg on the normal bar. Was nervous as f**k so did not drink any redbulls.

Event 1: 80kg Axle Clean and Press
----------------------------------
Up until 2 weeks ago could not clean and press this, 1 week ago I got 2 or 3 in training. Had tried doing continental cleans, but my belly is not really the right shape for it, full clean or nothing. So I decided to pace myself and use the time.
Took a huge nosefull of new nose tork which burnt my lungs, then went in. They all flew up.
Managed 4, last one was a complete grinder to press.
14= Baldy - 4reps - 6pts

Event 2: Farmers Hold
---------------------
I was feeling pretty confident about this as I had got 30+ in training. The first 3 guys went up and all got over 30 seconds so I knew it was on.
Three way head to head event, I was the last one in the "blocks" and so flustered to get setup. Did not take my time to get a nice comfy grip, lock out was the quickest I have ever done. Then the waiting, I was aiming for 30+ but when we got there no one else had dropped yet, so I waited for the 40. I had the shakes by the time 40 got called, so I just crumbled.
13th - Baldy - 41.21secs - 8pts

Event 3: Loading
----------------
Not my strongest event, only ever loaded the 100kg stone once before. Got very very tackied up and went for it. 2 stones and the 100kg keg went up really quickly, gave the 120kg keg a good go and was probably 1 inch from loading the sucker. Lapped it couple of times after that but it was not budging. Worst event for placings
19th - Baldy - 3 in 31secs - 2pts

Event 4: Medley
---------------
Strongest event, my long legs are ideal for duckwalk. Yoke at 220kg feels heavy for me and the first couple of times I did it in training I struggled with the pickup.
Head to head with Nicky which was a good match for me, he lead with the yoke, then when we ran back for the duckwalk I sprinted to catch him. With the duckwalk I over took him. Unfortunately I stumbled forwarded and dropped the duckwalk about half a meter before the line. Cost me a good few seconds, best placing event.
12th - Baldy - 24.35secs - 9pts

Event 5: Deadlift
-----------------
Got stuck into my 3rd redbull of the day and psyched up for the deadlift.
My pb is only 205kg and I have only doubled 200kg in training. So plan was to use the time, I had my straps around my wrists in case my grip failed.
First 3 went up well, 4th lift was tougher and grip started failing. Started strapping in for 5th rep when got the shout for 10 seconds to go. Once I got the lift passed my knees I was not going to drop it until I got the good lift call.
5 reps is a great new PB, must go for a new 1RM in the next couple of weeks.
14th - Baldy - 5reps - 7pts

Overall
-------
Got PB in axle, hold and deadlift so very happy with that. Aim going into the comp was not to bomb any events, which I achieved easily. Final result 16th - Baldy - 32pts, very close with Davy C but large gap past that.
