finally got a tagline Member 1190, 2812 posts SQ 300, BP 200, DL 350850.0 kgs @ 105kgs UnEq | Pompy said:Okay now I've finally got a minute to sit down here are my thoughts (start to end)! Got there early at about half ten, most people turned up around 11. Quick walk through then started warming up. I managed to pull number one from the bag so was up first in the axle against young Nick (the eventual winner). I matched my PB with 7 reps, just couldn't manage to clean it again. Happy with that. Highlights on this one were Baldy (good PB with 4 or 5 I believe), and some dodgy cleans all round! Quick note about the reffing. I think it is all too easy to criticize especially when you haven't been there, but overall it seemed very fair to me and I think that was the general consensus. They gave a little leeway since we were first timers but were also quick to clamp down on dodgy lockouts etc. Loaders were also seamless so thank you. Second event grip, previous PB only 28 seconds which I matched. I never really had it right in my right hand so I feel disappointed because I could have done better and thus was last in this event. Loading, I was first up again and knocked 12 seconds off my previous PB, setting a good time of 26 seconds. Fastest was in about 15 seconds from Danny, I believe. Very pleased with that one. Quick break for everyone to clean up then into medley. Yoke 220kg 12m then duck walk 12m 160kg. I just planned on doing it without any drops which I did. Although I was up against a very good polish guy in this event who beat me by about 4-5 seconds. Again happy with this one. Best effort in this was the other Polish guy (johnnydebaytor) who soldiered through it very well. Deadlift to finish, felt fresh still. PB was 9 and I managed 8 which I was very pleased with. Highlights was watching Nick smash 13? out maybe more, and seeing Ian pull out 8 reps which was a massive PB for him. I finished joint 12th overall but if I had not bombed the grip I'm sure I would have been in the top half. Big thanks to Brian and the whole crew for organising on the day, and for the training and tips throughout my build up. Lessons learned for me are not to let nerves/adrenaline get in the way of setting yourself for a lift (grip!). I really enjoyed it though and everyone seemed to have a smile on their face at the end. I think it was fitting for Nick to win as he has the most potential out of anyone (IMO, especially given his age). Bit gutted to get beaten by my mate Ian on the day but he deserved it he truly had a blinder! There was a fairly packed crowd and even people peering through the windows lol, one old bloke even gave me a wink before the grip started so maybe it was his paedo ways that put me off who knows! Think I'll probably drop a few kg and do the u90s next year, definately got the bug though. do the 105s this july with me ![]()

finally got a tagline Member 1190, 2812 posts SQ 300, BP 200, DL 350850.0 kgs @ 105kgs UnEq | Since evrybody else is doing it il do a write up too Arived a bit late but the comp hadn't started so had a good 10 minutes get ready, then i got told i had 5 minutes til i was up first, against pompy. I think i got 13 reps with 2 disalowwed for dropping it from above my head, which is fair enough, 11 reps joint first, was happy at "lifting" 13 reps but supose 11 offical reps was quite good , pr was 12 2nd event, farmer hold, didn't go as well as i would of wanted , was hoping for a 70+ seconds seeing as i got 63 my first time last week, so i managed to get worse and do 56 seconds, 3rd place in this which put me 2nd overall 3rd event was loading, I'd never tried this against the clock so wasn't very sure what my tactics were gonna be. Got a bit overexcited on the first keg and knocked it over at the top which cost me a good few seconds, and on the last keg i waited for a couple seconds in the front squat position before i tried squating it up, got up reasonably ok and finished with a disapointing 32 secs, which gave me an 11th place, so i went down to 5th overall i think. Positives was i completed it on my first time so now i know what i need to improve on Wee break 4th event was Medely, as with the last event I hadnt done a proper run through with this, I'd tried the yoke once before but not racing or timed just getting used to it, and im new to the duck walk so was a bit nervous when i had to go. started off ok and picked up a bit of speed on the yoke, then the duck walk i was al over the place but managed to keep moving forward, which I was pleased with. I think i got 20 seconds on this which was 3rd place or 4th place on this event, and i think this put me to 2nd overall Last event was Deadlift and i was the last set of guys up.I was in a comfy position for second place but a very uncomfy positoin to chase for 1st place, about 10 points behind if i recall, so i knew i had to go all out on this. I had watched through everyone else before and seen some very very good nunbers, a handful of guys getting in the teens, and lots of people getting high single digits, so i knew if i didnt try 100% i would lose mega points , so when it came down to it I was 100% focused and ready for it. The refs were explaining the rules to me and i musnt of been listening because on my first lift i didnt wait for the commands so got a no lift, I then did another 11 reps i think not 100% sure and they were all good lifts so ended up with 11 reps , which put me 5th or 6th in this event I think. Atmosphere was electric for the deadlift, didn't think i could lift without music but obviously i can ![]() When the scores were getting called out i was getting ready to walk up when they said 2nd place, but they didnt say my name so i was like ![]() Like to say thanks to the organisers , refs, people on the shop for the juice lol, the competitors for making the comp so close/exciting, big stevie for keeping me optimistic after a brutal 3rd event and for his motivation on the deadlifts, also for mike D , stevie and all the people that have showed me the techniques etc when i have been down, top guys! Also big thanks to my friends Josh Tam Alain Rory and Alains sister for the encouragement and constant pushing me in training for the past months I've trained with them(Josh and Alain especially), and thanks to Ken for the pre farmer hold slap lol ![]() ![]() /life story

![]() Member 1224, 652 posts | its time for my write up then![]() axel i was one of the 1st guys up and thought id get double figures easy as ive been hitting them every week(prob too much) anyway got 9reps wasnt happy. next the farmers hold i was aiming for 1min+ i got 56sec i think? wasnt all bad joint 3rd i think. stones medely done 22secs in training was hoping to beat that i ended up with 23secs, at this point i was 2nd overall and i knew i had a good event in the deads coming up so it was all on the yoke dulkwalk. yoke went badly i was going to fast fell forward and slid the yoke giving me a 2sec penalty then the dulkwalk was a dissater! i fell wot i thought was over the line only to find out i had about 12inches still to go. lost alot of points in this one basically ending my hope for 1st place. last up deadlift i knew i had to win this i done 10 reps in about 30 secs then annother hard 5 but only to find out i was given 13. still joint 1st and the other two reps wouldnt have matter anyway to my overall position in 3rd place as i lost to many points on the yoke. all in al i cant complain too much. onward and upwards ![]()

One 16yo, two 17yo's (Duncan is 17?), Youngy 19, and then I think Gary, Leon, and Kieran are late teens/early twenties as well. Hopefully folk coming in at this age, and showing the kind of potential that these guys did, will mean a solid injection of competitors into the sport in Scotland at a higher level over the next couple of years.
