As for idiot spotters lest not forget the fools that let your struggle for several minutes ranting on about how 'you've got it'. Despite the fact that on leg is of the ground, your arse is in the air and your shoudlers are rolling of one side of the bench!!

Actually I'm not sure that's ever happened to me - people are always too eager to row the bar off me to let that happen. Besides which, I either get it or I don't - if I'm not getting it it's just going to go down.

Had to look that one up Happy

I think I've finally finished checking out peoples' journals here. There's some excellent info tucked away in these, including new words!

tokar, I hope you don't mind me asking you in your journal but what is korte?

Yeah, it's getting very difficult to keep up with everyone's journals! On Muscletalk it's just impossible; there are hundreds (although Boar seems to find the time to post in every one - Jonny, do you have some kind of botnets to post for you?). But on here I've been trying to read all of them at least once in a while.

The Korte 3x3 routine is a high volume, low intensity powerlifting routine designed by Stephan Korte: http://www.deepsquatter.com/strength/archives/index.htm

I'm doing it somewhat heavier....

22/5/07

Squat
60x5, 90x5, 120x5, 135x5x7

Bench Press
70x3, 90x3, 105x2, 115x3x5, 105x6, 6, 8

Deadlift
70x3, 110x3, 150x3, 180x5x5

A bit of respite today - only 7 sets of squats and 5 sets of deadlifts! Benching is feeling good - did a couple of extra reps on the last set.

And so you are!

Thanks for the info. Once I've sorted out my squat form I will take a serious look at a more targeted routine like the one you posted in the articles section.

Squat
60x5, 90x5, 120x3, 135x5x8

Bench Press
60x5, 80x3, 95x3, 105x1, 115x3x6, 105x6x2

Clean Deadlift
60x3, 100x3, 140x1, 160x1, 170x1, 180x1x10, 190x1, 200x1, 212.5x1 PB

Decided to do something a bit different on the pulls today, mainly because my lower back was feeling a bit knotted, mainly from, I think, doing such a high volume of pulls with a mixed grip. (I don't swap the over/under hands round because for whatever reason - presumably because I've done it so much one way - I can't actually pull properly the other way round.)

The 212.5 is a PB clean deadlift, but having put 15kg on my PL style dead, and 5-10kg (?) on my SLDL since I set my PB of 210, that's what I'd expect.

Booked a massage for Wednesday, but back feels fine now. Should be OK for the final push...

25/5/07

Overhead Press
50x5, 62.5x3, 72.5x2x3, 67.5x7x3

Pulldown (supinated)
119.5x 11, 8
112x10

(Supposed to be 112 but I didn't notice the extra 7.5 that someone had put on.)

Machine Row (Sugden one that I don't like)
Ninetysomething x 8
84x10x2

Squat
70x5, 100x5, 120x3, 140x5x8

Bench Press
60x5, 80x4, 100x3, 120x3x6, 110x5, 4

Deadlift
70x5, 110x5, 150x3, 185x5x5

Really pleased with this session. Cut the deads short cos I felt a bit of a twinge in my right lower back. Squats were very good, easier than last session's 135s. Bench was excellent - last time I did 120 for 3s I was surprised to get them and took long rests; this time the rests were more like 2 minutes and they were no problem at all.

I've definitely put on a couple of kilos in weight since the end of April, but I hope I keep it on when the volume of work isn't so high.

If you don't mind yet another newbie question in your log, what is a clean deadlift compared to a PL style deadlift?

Its just a deadlift but using the grip you would use for a powerclean. ie slightly wider and double overhand.

No - they are clean pulls. Hang pulls are just where you do the top bit i.e. from above the knee, but you were right about one bit - you don't know! lol
