could a gym survive without dumbells...

it would still have power racks, olym weights, strongman kit, strength and conditioning kit, kettlebells, boxing equipment, bands and ropes etc.

just looking at an option, as wouldn't be able to afford a 5-55 dumbell set.
is this somthing that could be added later.

for me i use dumbells in most gym sessions but could manage without depending on style of training.

any feed-back would be appreciated gents would i be stupid to leave equipment such as this out.

Just get a couple of sets of plate loadable dumbell handles and away you go, you will have the plates for the bars etc anyway, just order up some extra 10s and 5s.

I got normal and fat handle ones from strengthshop

it would be used HOPEFULLY by..

athletes, boxing, cage fighters, rugby players... and would cater for powerlifting and strongman.

I would also hold classes such as boxercise, bootcamp, kickfit. But would not be considered as a general leisure style gym.
somthing like boxing club crossed with powerlifting centre.

Agreed would be better with dumbells just so damn expensive and would like to spend the money else were...
But i have to make money, its a gamble with a limited budget. But the area is rugby conutry and has a great history of boxers so the sports are very popular, Plus there's nothing like this in the area and the closest gyms i can find are 2 miles away.

Not my site, although i do spend almost enough there to keep Brian going in neoprene.

He has been very good with us in terms of bigger orders for our gym, so worth dropping him a PM and see if he can offer you any further deals.

Your gym sounds good if it works Happy

They are far from essential. Our gym only has d'bells to 35kg and probably due to the limited weight they do not get used by the "serious" strength athletes... but as we are home to the likes of Hixxy, Paddy and Shane I think it shows the absence of dumbbells is not detrimental.

That said, a lot of people/customers "expect" a set of dumbbells and most of the more recreational lifters do use what we have... in the same way that as a commercial gym we "have to have" an inner/outer thigh machine even though its not really needed.

Its a tough one if your budget is very limited but I would definately consider a 2nd hand set. I'll try and dig out the contact details of a guy who might be able to help (also with any other reconditioned gym kit/used plates etc).

thankyou gents appreciate your help.

its a small project with alot of encouragement and ambition, LOTS of crossing fingers and toes lol.

The concept is a little like MOPOWERS place in bolton, and the strength perfomance place like the guys who run the UK STONGEST ATHLETE.

Plate loaddable is probably the way to go if your not wanting to put out for a full set of dbs... What does a set cost anyway? And if your not aiming it at jo public... Will 5-10kg be needed? And then maybe 5kg jumps in bell size as opposed to 2kg would cut down the amount needed and the cost...?

Most on here will say nay, I'd Say if its a commercial venture I'd personally buy them over bands/ropes/kettlebells as unless your lucky a lot of money comes from kids doing curls

sets vary things like 2-10 are around £500,the higher weights such as 20-25-30kg just them 3 range into the £400,full sets roughly £1500-£2500 easy.

yet ive found power racks that will hold 250kg with bar and 100kg weight which are £400. just seems a waste in comparison when i can buy a power rack and weight for the cost of 2-10kg dumbell set.

I wouldn't put a rack with just a 250kgs max in a commercial gym it's an accident waiting to happen.
