Ask to be referred for CBT. It saved my life and I've moved on since I did it more than I ever thought possible. Don't get me wrong I'll always have OCD but the way I deal with it now compared to before CBT is worlds apart.

I'm sure they do but the important thing to do is try them!
I'm diabetic and nobody, or at least nobody with any sense, would suggest I try and muster on without my insulin.
By the same token CAJ I don't think you should try and get by trying to be heroic without meds if you could feel 1000X better with them.
A mental illness is still an illness and shouldn't be diminished in any way, shape or form, simply because it isn't physical. The doctor wanted you on meds for a reason, because with all their years of education, training and experience they feel like meds will make you feel better.

Diabetes is totally different and doesn't compare, your body needs insulin to function.

I would agree with CAJ and only take things in his scenarios as a last resort. Once you start with medication for anxiety/depression it's very hard to come off and that's before we even look at the long terms effects. In women this is even worse as it can cause issues during pregnancy

I have some experience with 'natural anti depressants'

I went through some bad times a few years ago and I remember getting this awful feeling enter my head all of a sudden and it's ever really gone since but it has subsided. It was the start of some bad depressive episodes which I now have gotten on top of considerably

I refused all prescription medication and wanted to sort things in a more natural way and did a lot of research and what seems to help the most is

No flush niacin 3200mg per day split into 2 doses
Magnesium bisglyconate 500mg per day

This felt amazing for me after a couple of days and I've been on it ever since

I also use choline daily and d3 @ 10000iu per day and fish oils

Nice to see men talking about this kind of stuff,to often we say nothing especially when we are into powerlifting, strongman and such.I have OCD tendencies I guess I call it,when I was younger I had horrible motor ticks OCD rituals and anxiety due a trumatic child hood it has gotten better since having kids most of my OCD tendencies are I guess internal these days mostly for example counting things, reapeating words, hand washing, when i used to go upstairs to the toilet as a kid id wash my hands turn the light on/off for a number of times come back down then for some reason i felt i had to go back up stairs to make sure id pulled the flush which i knew i had done then repeat the process two or three times but not before stepping up and down the last two steps of the stairs first when I'm at the gym nobody notices but I load the bar in a certain order every time, turn lights off i cant leave weight plates on the wrong stack mostly poeple laugh it off as do i but deep down id have to move it i simply would not be able to workout knowing it was in the wrong place.luckily I've not suffered from depression to be honest during times of upset i dont tend to feel much myself although I have a lot of empathy for others.but I had an ex who was on Prozac even if all her dreams had come true all at once she would have still been depressed, she always said you can't just snap out of it it's a proper medical condition like a broken leg but you can't see it thought that was a good description.

Vitamin d3 is good s**t. I take either 5000, or 10000 iu a day. I also take fish oils and sometimes daa.

People will think placebo, but I genuinely feel much better using the above supplements.

How about some sort of cardio exercise? This is commonly recommended by those who struggle with depression and the like.
I do a bit of running and it definitely has a positive effect.

It's not depression mate, I ain't depressed and how I act doesn't fulfil the criteria for depression, there may be an element of it yes but having started to research some CBT stuff I can identify with the 'vicious cycles' for Anxiety and Anger mostly.

Got a lot of work to do on the old brain, beginning to thing some therapy wouldn't go amiss too tbh

D3 is a good shout.

I've already told you this in via a non threatening PM but I found that cold showers properly sort me and my mood right out. I started having them mots days over a year ago and ever since have only ever felt the need to have a handful of warm ones.

I did actually look into the science of how it works but I won't go into that. It involves the up regulating of endorphine receptors and what have you. I would recommend it

I can't emphasise enough how good no flush niacin (b3) is. There is a lot of information on the net out there on it
