id switch the squat for the keg toss rather than the overhead. comps without overhead just dont look right to me. plus, as macca proved, its extremely hard to set a fair weight for a squat event. even moreso at the lighter bodyweight divisions.

bruce said:Dom I agree on how the quals could work but again it would depend on interest maybe a separate thread to get a list of the under 80 s lads that would want to do it. But u can't expect organiser to risk there money to put on a comp for 3 people

I have already spoke to Neil about putting on 2 more comps. One is an under 80s open to everyone. And other other is a 90s invertational that I wanted to do last yr but dint get chance in the end

fair enough if i was organising i wudnt want to be out of pocket so i can appreciate that. as u suggest another thread may give organisers an idea of wot numbers to expect. if theres another u80 comp then that solves the attracting new blood prob aswell. im not that concerned with u80s anyway as it prob wont effect me but i still feel if theres no qualifier then the numbers shudnt be capped (the weights/events shud prevent it gettin over crowded and there was only around 16 last year anyway)

I just get annoyed when people try to chnage s**t, why!!? Lol.

Just do it .. What if you qualify and there's a 115 log for reps you going to ask to change it?

:/

Anyway I don't care either way so enjoy the comp boys!!
AvatarBoar
Its just peoples differing opinions ...... that sort of s**t goes on in forums , it kinda keeps em rolling along !
Avatarvausie
I aint arsed either way i see 2 events i cud no rep but i see 2 events i cud win so nay bother

i like the idea of qualifiers

i cant see how u get the best 12 guys tho without quals tho whats gunna happen are athrletes gunna be chose from spplicants or what

Not so much chosen from applicants, but the top 10 from last year have a guranteed spot available to them if they want it (i'm not sure who the top 10 are from last year, so i should really find that out).

but i have a feeling that not all of those 10 will be returning this year so that leaves places open as well.

if the 12 spots fill up and there are still guys contacting me that want to compete and it is clear from their training journals/videos that they are right in the mix, then spots will definitely be made available to them

vausie - i'm assuming the two events you are referring to are the log and the squat, simply because you said "no-rep", what are your log and axle squat 1rm at the minute ?

Ok guys (that are competing)

The atlas stones, you have two choices of how we can do it.

First

Stone shouldering for maximum weight. I have 80-150kg stones going up in 10kg jumps, 30-60secs per attempt, same basic principal as max deadlift with rising bar. I personally think this would look f**king brilliant and would be a great end to the day.

or

Second

120kg stone for reps over a yoke in 75 secs

Let me know your thoughts guys
Avatarbruce
Stone shouldering would be fun and a bit different
AvatarJC
Mike, keg toss has no "overhead element" to it......nothing to do with shoulder/tricep strength

all to do with explosive power/use of the hips

Events look good as they are IMO

I agree with macca though re the log....you cant justify the weight on the pretence that the best guy in the country can do 8+
AvatarRobbo
A 110 log is bloody heavy for u80!!!!

A 110 log for reps wouldn't look out out place at a 105 comp.

But Shane can do 8 reps... Lets not forget

re: qualification issues.

Why not say that as part of your application process you need to submit a video of you doing a certain quality of lift e.g deadlift 220 for reps or something?

Make the qualifier a video entry and pick the best 12 out of the quality of the lifts done on film? Would need to show a weigh in too?

Don't know if it'd work entirely but it is the 21st century so why not?!

Stone shouldering would be an awesome event, much more interesting than standard stone over yoke IMO. i think the comp looks great, a 110 log is very heavy but ther wil be some lads getting a few reps who will lose points on other events. It will all balance out overall

It won't affect the outcome of the competition too much, but there is nothing worse from a spectators point of view as watching 3/4 of the field no-rep / 1 rep an event

There are no strict, hard and fast rules regarding qualifying. If you would like to compete and genuinely think that you can get in there and mix it with the best, just let me know on here and we'll go from there. The majority of decicions will be based on previous competition performances but other things can certainly be taken into consideration as well.

If there are any doubts, the kit will be available to come and train on from early summer.

I only have one goal for this competition and that is to get the best guys in the country together and find out who is the best of them

With regards to making it accessible for anyone and attracting new competitiors, on this occasion that is not my top priority. I think it is very admirable that people would like to see thes guys have a platform to display their hard work and would suggest maybe they can get together and put on a show for these guys.

There is the 85kg team comp which looks great and there are lots of light/novice u90 comps around to try their hand at as well. I did my first u90 comp at a bodyweight of 63kg back in 2008, I had my arse handed to me on a plate but that is a part of sport that you need to deal with.

With further regards to the weight of some events, that is why I have announced it so far ahead of time so that people have the best chance possible to get to the standard they want to be at, rather than announcing it at the last minute.

Lets remember guys this is STRONGMAN, we all have one goal and that is to be stronger and that is all that putting more weight on the bar asks of you as well.

Are you competing in this comp mike?
