It was the first thing I saw, very impressive. Have you worked out how many more plates it will take ?

I haven’t seen them in the flesh, but did point out from the photos that Mack sent me that there looked to be plenty of room for more plates :-)

She is well. She's picked up a few bad habits from training alone but nothing we can't iron out. She has suggested grey for the outside

Hopefully she will be a regular visitor again!!

It looks increasingly as though grey is the choice for the outside!!

The shoulder handled this much better and the skin on the back, which last week was akin to a Cuban virgin's inner thigh, well let's just say she is a virgin no longer. Happy days, let's not get too giddy though

Only two down tonight, just me and young Brooke and absolutely no-one else.

Would you say squats aggravate shoulders moreso than benching and shoulder pressing? I have a very narrow grip when squatting, and even do high-bar to try and save my shoulders a little more.

That's a big question.

I always squat "racks-in" using as wide a grip as I can, this is entirely because I have to. I would prefer to use a slightly narrower one but can't.
Having said that I do not believe that a wide grip on low bar squats has ever damaged my shoulders. If I have a shoulder injury I believe it hinders recovery but I don't think it exacerbates it, it just makes you more aware.
Many seem so get sore elbows from low bar squats but I haven't ever had this problem.

I have done very litte shoulder pressing so can't really comment.

Benching caused by most serious shoulder injury, but this was equipped benching where I just went too heavy too often. I don't believe raw benching would cause this.

The one caveat I will put on all this is that I am still of the firm and (in my eyes) certain belief that the surest way to f**k yourself up is insufficient recovery. Go to the well too often and it will run dry.

Thanks for the words of wisdom. I now bench generally in the 8 or so rep range, same for squats. I'll give wider grip squats a go and see if it helps with shoulder pain. I always bench with elbow sleeves, and squat with knee sleeves.

One more plate up from last week and none of these troubled the shoulder too much, but before I started I did try to bench the empty bar and I still can't do it in a straight line. Three down tonight, doesn't sound like many but it is fifty percent up from Monday.

Until a few years ago, all I knew about Warren Zevon was that Carl Hiaasen liked him, and of course Werewolves of London. You gave me my first Zevon album, way out of my usual zone, and I have come to love it - indeed, I gigged this song with my last band.

65 today, eh. I left you a message in the outro. Happy birthday, my friend.

As birthday greetings go that is now top of the list by some way. Very impressive.

I recall you once credited me with your introduction to the single hand watch. That made me very happy. If I can add WZ to that list I am even happier.

Thank you

Friday, 23rd April, start 1600

Barbell bent row
40 x 10
50 x 10
60 x 10
70 x 10
80 x 10
80 x 10
80 x 10

T bar row
20 x 10
30 x 10
40 x 10
50 x 10
60 x 10
60 x 10
60 x 10

Tried bigger jumps on the bent rows tonight and I think I prefer smaller ones. Probably doesn't matter much but I reckon smaller is better and a few extra sets get done.

Quite a few down tonight and quite a bit to talk about. The highlight of the evening was catching DrRick who was as entertaining as he ever was. All in all, a very pleasant evening. I have a week's holiday next week which I am very much looking forward to. No plans, but that is no bad thing.

Fat Pete has given up smoking, day 15,000

Went to the pie shop and the chippy and on the way back met the widow of an old friend of mine. He died about a year ago, very sudden and unexpected. I had known him since infant school and he was a remarkably likeable fellow. It was a very enjoyable encounter.
