Competed at the Scottish Seniors today. 2 weeks ago, ended up with a bit of overuse injury on left erector which tweaked so had to back off the training. Haven't been able to do anything really since then apart from a few little bits and pieces. The positive side was I was coming in feeling very fresh.

Snatch felt good warming up, opened on 102, not technically great but easy enough. 108, again managed to hang on for a 1kg snatch comp pb. 111 rushed and looped over the back.

Clean and jerk opened on 130 feeling good enough, already secured 2nd place behind Kirkbride in the 94s. Took a decent jump to 138 to attempt a comp pb clean and jerk hoping to get 140 or so afterward. cleaned 138 for PB clean but rushed and missed jerk, followed myself at 138 again and made a hard clean with no chance of jerk.

Overall, not too worried. I think I was very fresh coming in due to the extra rest so feeling really strong but technically not quite firing maybe due to inability to get in some decent lifts in last couple weeks. Now to build for next year. After a week or two rest.

Maybe stick on a proper write up tomorrow.

I fully understand what he did, I watched it. Rules don't clarify it needs to touch shoulder. It just allows a quicker rep, if it was that much easier he would be able to do it with all the DB's. Ref allowed it after the competitor letting him know beforehand what he planned to do so can't ask for much more. I spoke to all competitors after and no one even mentioned the DB technique or had a problem with it, some said they wished they thought of it

That is completely fair enough then.

I thought conventionally that if two hands were being used then the 2nd hand had to be clearly away from the dumbbell before the initiation of any leg drive. In this case the leg drive would have already taken place before the dumbbell reaches shoulder height, with two hands on the dumbbell. Although my interpretation / understanding maybe isn't correct then since I've seen that method passed a few times in comp now.

Again, well done to Arram and the rest of the guys competing!

From above the shoulder he had it with one hand, Lloyd was reffing and had no problem with it. Yea its an advantage but no one else thought to try it. Very easy to speak to the ref or even show them beforehand. One of the things that makes Arram great is his preparation

He generated the power / momentum with two arms on the dumbbell though. Probably not the best place to discuss rules on dumbbell though here so as not to take anything away from the guys performance.

Looks like a cracking comp and well done to all the guys involved. Looks like u90 may just be moving forward!

What a terrible thing to say!

I am slightly, yesterday during snatching something tightened up on my side / back just below lat. Probably QL or something that attaches onto the ribs. Don't think its anything too serious.

Felt better today but it tightened up again while doing some light squats so left it there. Will do nothing on it tomorrow and hopefully it heals up. Was starting to back things off anyway so with a bit of rest I'll be good to go by next Saturday. As long as I don't totally f**k it up in the mean time.

You are strong and move well
Could be more mobile like but you are consistent
What are you going to lift in two weeks?

Thanks. Mobility is something I have been working on for years and its improving, although very slowly.

My plan would be to open as heavy as I have done, around 105/130 maybe? and then attempt some decent PB's. I reckon I have a 112 and 142 or something like that in me if everything goes really well but we will see.

Thanks buddy. Got Scottish Seniors 2 weeks tomorrow, so will start to taper off and hopefully freshen up a bit. Things starting to look a wee touch slower than normal.

couple 140 snatches and 190kg x3 front squat. Strong stuff!

Comments :Not the greatest of sessions. Had a 130 clean and power jerk in mind and a 100kg snatch double but I have a list of excuses too Happy Scotstoun was booked out so had to head over to Glasgow Strength after finishing work at Scotstoun which was annoying. Meant I have to rush through the session a bit. Still though, not too bad considering.
