» How wide for squat? (Go to post)27-07-2009 @ 09:41
Top advice from Mr Pork Pie there as always.

My advice - get a belt, knee wraps and wrist wraps ordered today and enter the BPC UK Open on 6th Sept and do it raw.

As for squat stance wider is better but only normally in gear. Going wide stance raw can be too stressful on the hips. You want shoulder width or slightly wider without equipment on I'd say.

Preston boy Martin Brown took the 100kgs class with a fantastic 8 from 9, going something like 380/250/320 for his thirds. It is only Martin's second full season powerlifting and he is already British champion at a very comptetitive weight class. The sky is the limit for this fella.

Thanks mate - yeah its still scary looking back 16 months and I'd never competed before and was training my guts out to hit a 765 total to qualify.

I finished with 380/240/325 (945) but was confident I could have pulled over 330. The 250 third bench attempt nearly stapled me to the bench - don't know what went wrong on that one! Was a really well run day and brings the best out in me.

Next stop over 1000kg total then I'm moving up a class (or two)....

Here's my video for anyone interested -

Just a very light pair of boxers or nothing if it's close!

Maybe that is due to the distance travelled decreasing as you get heavier in both squat and bench but not so in deadlift.

I can't see how another stone or two of functional muscle can make anyones deadlift go backwards though. Maybe a stone or two of belly might though...

Yeah Del did 382.5 at 106 I think in October.

I'd like 350 at 100 in the next 12 months.

You want to get a girlfriend, like Mrs PorkPie.

Everybody wants a girlfriend like Mrs PorkPie!

As everyone else said, don't waste time or money using legal rubbish - in fact some of them have been shown to have some bad side effects, with little positive effect.

Can't beat a bit of training, protein/creatine and some multi-ply kit lol
