» Martin's Powerlifting Journal... (Go to post)27-11-2013 @ 19:27
Back to physio work this week working on my weaknesses so haven't logged anything.

Today saw some weight training again:

Bench Press
60kg x 8
80kg x 5
100kg x 3
120kg x 3
130kg x 3
150kg x 3
130kg x 5

Press Ups
x 30

And that was it. Plan to do some deadlifts tomorrow Happy

Strong off the floor, miss lifts at lockout?

No really mate, most miss just below the knee or a few inches off the floor...

I agree that using a Deadlift Bar certainly FEELS nicer to lift with, and possibly makes lift FEEL easier. But as to adding to a persons 1RM I doubt the difference in more than a couple of kgs.

My best deadlift on my 7.5 ft deadlift bar that I have used for five years in training = 330kg,

Best deadlift in comp on a 7ft eleiko pl bar = 330kg....

Amazing! Maybe I should get my money back...

Some people say they lift 5-10% more with a whippy 28mm bar especialy the taxas DL bars

People like who?!

10% more is absolutely ridiculous lol

Cheers mate! Was a good experience getting back into squatting in competition again, always brings the best out of me.

Tbh how easy 312.5 was I would have gone over 320 yesterday without much trouble I think Happy

Cheers mate, no probs.

Not sure, would like to string a decent raw training cycle together and see what I can get out of it if I actually prepared for it right.

We shall see Happy

Weighed in at 99kg.

Squat

Warm ups - feeling a little shaky and unsteady for some reason. Getting used to a monolift and full sized squat bar was awkward. Warmed up to 225kg x 1 and decided to open lighter than planned.

1st Attempt - 255kg - Easy.

2nd Attempt - 282.5kg BR - Easy again, getting used to not walking it out and got position a little better.

3rd Attempt - 300kg BR - Even better still. Good depth and came up well.

4th Attempt - 312.5kg BR - Felt better than all the previous squats. More in there with some practise Happy

Bench Press

Warm ups went well and everything felt ok. Training post pectoral tear only got me to a 160x2 so decided to open there and take it as it came...

1st Attempt - 160kg - Good lift. Bad news, a pull in my pec wasn't a good sign...

2nd Attempt - 170kg - Good lift. Brought my grip in very narrow to avoid more stress.

3rd Attempt - 182.5kg - Three reds! Lifted my ass of the bench I think and also paused slightly on way up. Not bad all things considered and pec still holding out.

Deadlift

Having not done a deadlift hardly this year it was a little difficult to know what to expect.Warm ups went ok so worked upto 220kg and decided to go:

1st Attempt - 250kg - Good lift.

2nd Attempt - 302.5kg - Good lift. It was hard but it gave me enough for a new total record in the GPC Happy

Well a day of learning again. It was great to get back on a platform and do three lifts again after over two and a half years out injured. Although the focus was always on squat for this I was fairly pleased that I benched a disallowed 400lbs and deadlifted over 300kg without any training for it.

There is certainly a decent 800+ total there for the taking next time Happy

Repeat the last 7 weeks of your previous program +2.5-5% in weight?

If it worked, re-run it Happy

Alright. 272.5kg then. I didn't realise you pulled the 300 raw. All I meant was I personally haven't seen you pull more than that sans le suit cos you mostly used to wear it when we trained together.
:-)

Lol. Yeah I haven't used a suit since early 2011 dude. Still have no idea what I can actually deadlift though Wink

I took the injury into account. Happy
You'd be good for well over 200 uninjured and after a proper build up. Grin
Must be looking at something like 270/180/290 maybe? Although I don't know if I've ever seen you pull over 270 raw I'm sure you could if fit.

Are you taking the pi$$ dude?! Last time I deadlifted about a year ago I pulled 272.5 at Ironman and then 300 then failed 317.5 at my knees in last years GPC Push Pull!
