Teaching and personal training
The blind leading the blind kind of thing
Still, with weightlifting you start coaching good technique and finish... Coaching good technique
So in that sense I disagree with quite a few of your points Mills... But I don't think it matters to be honest as actual Olympic weightlifting in its purest form isnt really affected too negatively by people watering it down, teaching it incorrectly or incorporating it into a variant within a workout

I disagree. Grin

I didn't realise there was so much demand for people to be taught the Olympic lifts? Wouldn't people just join an Olympic lifting club if they really wanted to learn them rather than pay someone without experience who's just done this course?

All Crossfit coaches have to have done their Crossfit level 1 cert so don't need to do this (or Crossfit's own Olympic lifting course). I just don't see it as people trying to make money.

All the Crossfit coaches I know are pretty obsessive about Crossfit AND Olympic lifting (Olympic lifting, gymnastics and cardio being the three principle elements of Crossfit). They simply want to increase their knowledge and expertise (a lot of the time for their own benefit in learning the olympic lifts). Again, this can only be a good thing if they are then to pass that in to Crossfit members (who don't have personal trainers as they pretty much get that, or at least small group coaching, every single time they go to a Crossfit gym).

My Crossfit box owner is an excellent Olympic lifting coach!

I don't really have a problem with crossfit on the whole. However when some crossfitting idiot asked me if deadlifting gives me back ache as i lift a lot with my back i think he should look at his tech, he's the only person i've ever seen finish a pull with his chin on his chest. Now if you want to lift like that fine but don't tell me about using too much back when you're tech is iffy at best and you're lifting next to nowt

My biggest gripe with the Olympics is the waffle about attracting kids to these sports when we all know there are f**k all coaches or facilities to do so. Surely the more people who show an interest and pass that enthusiasm on can only be good for lifting? Crossfit or not?

I'm massively behind what crossfit are doing for British Weightlifting ..

Increasing participation year on year . Making for a bigger talent pool .

Seems simple enough to me too.

Plus you have stuff like Crossfit Kids (obviously Crossfit classes for kids!) where children from as young as 4 are being introduced to Olympic lifting with PVC piping. Unless the coach is totally retarded (which I don't see how they can be if they are willing to expand their knowledge by attending courses like the BWLA one) this is a great thing for the sport of Olympic weightlifting! I wish somebody had shown me how to do the Olympic lifts when i was a child...

I'm confused why this is bad - also confused as to why people making money is bad .

The problem I see is that some very zealous Crossfitters see what they do as being in some way superior to other training methods but then you get video with some redneck doing the worst snatches in living memory - the two together rub people up the wrong way.

I fully appreciate this only includes a very small minority of Crossfitters though and the majority just want to become more well rounded athletes.

I used to be a hater too! It wasn't until I actually tried it, at a proper affiliate, in a class setting that I got a true appreciation of it. A very positive, friendly and inspiring experience on the whole.

Some quality snatching from Froning on the right (who else in the world can do this as well as everything else they have to be able to do?):

Avatarsexymikehowarth
The positioning under the bar is excellent... But the way he pulls them lifts and that "start" position... with a rounded back too, are awful

They were that bad... Obviously IMO

But that's how you snatch for so many reps and with such light weight

I enjoyed watching that video and liked the look of that workout

Thanks for putting that video up Mills it is very informative and educational too... Even if it confirms what we already know about how fit these guys are

Do they have testing atall in crossfit games? Some of the clips of the topless guys I've seen show very strong looking guys with heavily developed upper bodies
AvatarTobyCutler
On a seperate note Fronin and Bailey are machines!!!

I feel I should comment on Crossgay cos I'm always calling Millsy and Crossfit Chris for it, cos its fun to do and as millsy says it is very cool to do so............

saying that though, these guys and girls are stupidly fit (the girls in both senses of the word) and they are attracting people to use weights and strongman gear where they soemtimes wouldn't which can only be good for our sport (I mena strength sports in general). I have respec for what they're putting themselves thorugh and have on occassion tried it (although I didn't inhale and it was in a well ventitlated room!) and it has damn near killed me, but felt strnagely good after!

So from me it gets a massive thumbs up (well the women do)! Grin

Now if they don't wanna make you rock out with your cock out then god knows what will!
