Say what you like about crossfit, but without it there would be a damn site less people performing the WL movements (however well or badly that may be...)

You might want to take a trip to Crossfit Manchester Craig, they've got some very tasty lifters! Not at all what you'd expect of a Crossfit gym based on youtube vids.

The guy who runs the it has competed in Oly lifting for years and I'm pretty sure he has some of the masters records too, so hopefully there will be none of this!

Yes absolutely

Then after they have done these courses they can begin to learn how to lift and coach... With the guidance of recognised and respected coaches that already we have dotted around Manchester

Everybody has to start somewhere.

The top guys have great techniques, the newbies less so.

The sheer number of people performing Olympic lifting can only be a great thing for the sport?

A couple of weeks ago at the Crossfit gym I go to there were 8 people training at 7.00am all doing nothing but MAX snatch for basically an hour as that was the day's WOD. I remember thinking at the time "This is cool as f**k!" Then another 20-odd people in the evening. This was at just one of 6 (I think) Crossfit 'boxes' in Manchester alone, so just imagine how many people across the country are being exposed to Olypic lifting - I think it's great for the sport! Train Manchester has 8 proper Olympic lifting platforms - many Crossfitters have switched over the Olympic lifting only.

How can it be anything but a good thing?

So how are they going to make a few quid from attending the course? They don't have to go!

Teaching and personal training

The blind leading the blind kind of thing

Still, with weightlifting you start coaching good technique and finish... Coaching good technique

So in that sense I disagree with quite a few of your points Mills... But I don't think it matters to be honest as actual Olympic weightlifting in its purest form isnt really affected too negatively by people watering it down, teaching it incorrectly or incorporating it into a variant within a workout

These are coaches who coach crossfit and are getting weightlifting qualifications to teach the weightlifting movements as part of their exercise programmes

You point still stands regarding target markets and profit making within both the Olympics and Crossfit

Not necessarily a bad thing though, especially if the coaches turn out to be good
