most comps will have alot of cardio in them, more moving events which i hate. dont stress about it the deadlift will be higher so you will nail it

Just had a good read through your journal mate and it all looks very positive. Very similar start in the sport as myself. Just keep up training consistently and the gains will come.

Have you got any comps lined up this year?

My advice as someone who only started stongman a year ago is to get as many comps under your belt as possible, try training with people who have experience in the sport (Al and Wayne know what they are talking about - and strong chaps aswell!), and try not to fail reps in training.

Hopefully see you at the Naturals next year

Yea i've done one comp already and i've got 3 lined up in the next month, after that I might be doing watfords in October and then the Big Gay Bash. Do you think thats enough?

Yea hopefully so pal, that is the aim anyway.

Ashamedly I did but in my defence my bicep strength has always been terrible and I hate barbell curls with a passion mainly due to my general rubbishness at them! After this comment I will never darken the pages of sugden with my talk of curls and such like, excuse me for my folly.

I was thinking about doing the Watford comp as im only down the road but il see how i feel after the natural finals.

Yea I was only supposed to be doing Swindon and Gravesend in August then Al asked me to do a local one next weekend so thought I'd give it a go. Yea I'm looking at it as all chance to get experience and to try and progress. I am still undecided about Watfords as I don't think I am strong enough yet but suppose it would be more experience.

Friday 20th July 2012

Today was my last heavy session before my comp next Saturday and also the day I decided to pop my Zercher cherry as I promised Wayne_Cowdrey I would do.

Zercher Squat - As my usual gym has no squat or power rack I was doing off a bench so was a pain in the arse from the start!

65kg x 5
85kg x 5
105kg x 3
125kg x 1
135kg x 1
145kg x 1 PB

These were all technically PBs at the times they were performed as this was the first time I had ever attempted this. I think there is 150-155kg there but on the 145kg it felt like my arms were opening out slightly and as I wasn't doing this in a rack I didn't risk it.

Hack Squat -

60kg x 8
70kg x 8
90kg x 5
110kg x 3

Lying Hamstring curls -

120kg x 8 x 3

Dips -

BW x 8
BW x 6
BW x 5

Paused CGBP -

80kg x 8
100kg x 8
110kg x 5 Reps PB
120kg x 4 Reps PB

Overall the session went well and I was happy with it, felt strong and feeling as ready as I can be going into the comp, now just to hope everything goes alright on the day. My elbows are screaming at me due to the zerchers but nothing serious I don't think and was quite happy with my attempt at zerchering and actually quite enjoyed it Grin
