Last night's training:

Huge flinching at gigantic spider appearing in lap while lying on couch watching basketball through the V of my feet: one set.

Convulsive sobbing while watching House: Two sets.

Going to push back the Friday-Sunday workouts to Saturday-Monday, because the cold is still f**king me over a little. Expect to be pretty much ok tomorrow.

Was still too f**ked up to train yesterday. Woke up clear today, but still feeling weak. So, bench and squat together, and see what we can do.

Sunday 25/3

Squat Goblet 30x5, barbell 60x5, 100x5, 120x5, 125x5, 130x5.

That'll do. Depth is good, strength is actually OK, but I'm just not there after being ill. Plan over the next three week is 5x5s with 130, 135, 140.

Coan bench week 6. Should have done this Friday, but was sick.

Bench 20x8, 60x5, 80x3, 100x1, (all paused), 110x5x2 (first reps paused). Solid, surprisingly easy.

Close-grip Bench 97.5x5x2. Really very easy.

Incline Bench 92.5x5x2. Not bad at all.

So, squats poor but bench solid. I'll take that, today.

Stretching, home.

Ah, Ok. Decided on the 130,135,140 plan rather than 132.5/137.5/142.5 then? Happy

I think so, yeah. Of course if I feel like a throbbing young god on Sunday I may change my mind Happy.

Deadlifts wednesday: opinions needed, chaps. Should I have a lightish session (say 160x3x3) or jump straight into the next Jackson cycle with 175x2x5? I will have had ten days off from deads at that point.

The cycle will be (EDIT I forgot that it loses all formatting when it posts, so these don't line up nicely here):

Week   Lift
1 175x2x5
3 187.5x2x4
5 197x2x3 (tempted just to load 200 here, if it's going well!)
7 210x2x2
9 220x1.

with platform pulls up to a single, progressing: 180, 190, 200, 210.

even weeks: 185x1x5, heavy rack pulls from various heights.

210 for doubles kind of looks ridiculous, but I could certainly have doubled 205 when I pulled it last time and I expect to be stronger by then.

Just start with the cycle already, 175 for doubles is a nothing weight for you.

I think you're right about the pulling too.

You should repost that cut/bulk pic you put on muscletalk here, since I know a lot of the boys don't read it and it almost made me actually piss laughing. Masterful.

Actually this is only my second or third cold of the academic year - not too bad! It's just that the first one was a proper bas***d that lasted a long, long time.

And it's gone now, anyway. A five-day head cold hardly counts.

We're always going to catch more colds than most people because we have so much more exposure. Kids catch several times more colds than adults, and I teach about 150 kids a week. Some people find their immune system gets the hang of it over time; I'm hoping mine will too.

I do seem to get them just after a particularly good four weeks of lifting, too, which makes me wonder if I should be deloading every fourth week rather than fifth. Something to ponder next winter.

Wednesday 28/3

Jackson deadlifts, week 1, target 220kg at week 9.

Deadlifts 60x8, 100x3, 140x1, 175x2x5.

These were easy, but the ten days off from pulls (and two weeks from latwork, due to layoff followed by illness) have left me with hands like cheesecake. They duly got torn up somewhat.

Platform deads 100x2, 140x2, 165x1, 185x1.

The last one was *slow*. Not hard, just slow. Felt like I was pulling forever.

Partial chins 3x5. Worked in with joni for these; the levitating fatmen drew many stares.

Narrow-grip pulldowns 98x10. Didn't feel good about another set.

Coan light day:

Bench 60x8, 85x10x2. Did every rep with a small but definite pause today, not so much deliberately as because I'm doing what Alan told me to and really concentrating on exploding from the chest.

For the first time in almost six weeks, cardio:

Concept 2 250m intervals/2:00 rest, :57, :52, :54.

I like these, they make me f**ked without leaving me on the edge of vomiting (as a good 500m does). Will work up to probably five intervals, then shorter rests and start getting quicker.

Stretching and home.

OK! 118 would be closer to half-way, of course, but yes, it should be easier for me. Unless you start eating like I do at cheat meals Happy.
