Thursday - REST

Friday:

Thai boxing 5pm - got there late, forgot to bring food, got battered by a suppossed beginner (who was actually a kick boxer, she had just never been to thai boxing before) and hurt my wrist at the end. But in terms of usefulness the session was great. Having a good partner meant i had damn good pratice at holding the pads. She was really f**king tall as well so I was holding it above my head for a long time. Shoulders felt that somewhat! I am NEVER going to forget to take bloody food for after kick boxing - I am going to put some in my ruck sack right this minute. I'm going to get some more ice spray for injury emergencies (although this eased off during benching, its a bit sore this morning).

Benching - Boards and close grip - wore wrist wraps because of the injury from thai boxing.

Warmups with 20 kg and 30 kg - wrist felt ok so decided to continue.

Boards 40kg: 5
45 kg: 4
47.5 kg: 3
50 kg: F (probably partly pschological - i took the weight in my hands and thought 'f**k this is heavy')
47.5 kg: 2,2

Form still crap with all of them. So did close grip with elbows tucked in 30 kg: 5 x 5 (s**t my tris were like jelly after. I think they may have been avoiding their role in benching for a little bit too long)

Barbell Rows 25 kg: 8 warmup
40 kg: 5, 5, 5 (these felt crap, just couldn't find my form and they aggrevated my tendonitis summut awful)

Lat pulls (also aggrevated tendons)
28 kg: 8
35 kg: 8, 8, 8

May have to stick to seated rows and wide grip assisted pulls to work my lats for a bit.

Am going to tweak my program somewhat this weekend as its not really working optimally at the moment. I guess im a bit frustrated by my progress (i.e. its so slow) but pleased I have managed to train well this week despite having the week from hell.

Saturday: private tuition for thai boxing.

Sunday: REST - back was really sore, as was everything else. Didn't think there was much point in getting another injury so missed a session. I hate missing sessions

Monday: Ran for 28 mins - pretty good run

Tuesday: Thai boxing - good session. Trained with a Canadian girl who is about a similar level and build to me. We both focused alot more on technique and also moved up from the beginners bit of the class. Doing more combinations was alot more taxing, but definately more worthwhile. Much harder physically, guess there was no dossing around watching the instructor. More press-ups

Benching
20 kg and 30 kg warm up
40 kg: 1
42.5 kg: 1
45 kg: Fail. Again. FFS.

Stopped doing heavy singles because the assisted rep on 45 kg was actually pretty hard and i really wanted to get 37.5 5x5. Which i didnt. f**king benching.
37.5kg: 5, 4, 4, 4, 3 (i think....i left my notebook in the gym)
Pushpress 32.5 kg: 3, 3, 3, 3, 3
Close grip 32.5 kg: 4, 4, 3 Some with 30kg but i was knackard by then.

Crap session Unhappy

Wouldn't worry about it too much Jo - sounds like the boxing is pretty taxing. You looked pretty knackered when you came in.

Maybe you should just do speed bench on Tuesdays and do your heavier pressing at some other point in the week.

And a 50p fine for failing 45 again - this way you won't miss it next time Happy

Yeah dont be too hard on yourself Josephine, thats a lot of work to do before a session.

And it'll come, soon, and once you've nailed some good reps, 45kg will be a warmup for you, im sure of it. Just keep plugging away!

FFS is right.

Forget 45kg for the time being. 42.5kg was dead easy - get plenty of volume in with weights slightly < 45kg (preferably without Thai boxing beforehand) and when you come back to it it'll be a breeze.

Yesterday's session. Feeling a bit off colour in the day, but it seemed to shift after a red bull and packet of oatcakes Grin Decided to train, but just see how it went. 40kg deadlifts felt hard. That's never a good sign!! But perserved anyway.

40kg: 5
60kg: 5
80kg: 1, 1
90kg: 1
105kg: 5 singles. Second was truely awful. Kind of dangled the bar at ankle height before spectacularly hitching it. But the last rep was by far the best. Weight felt ok.
80kg formwork: 5 doubles - last set the best. Just have to work on getting my hips lower and lifting in one movement rather than straight legging it. Still, im pretty pleased I can straight leg deadlift 105 kg (joke) Grin

Leg press
Warm-up then
115 kg: 3, 3, 3 (pleased with these, although they were a bit of a grind after deadlifting)
106 plus half block, except it fell off half way through: 5
106 kg: 5

Some abs and shrugs. Must work my weak core more, must work my weak core more, must work my weak core more, must work my weak core more, must work my weak core more, must work my weak core more, must work my weak core more, must work my weak core more, must work my weak core more, must work my weak core more, must work my weak core more, must work my weak core more, must work my weak core more, must work my weak core more, must work my weak core more, must work my weak core more.....

Friday 13th October

Running
25-30 mins (forgot watch) Easy run

Thai Boxing 1 Hour

Squats

Not my usual squat day, especially as it is so close to deadlifting last wednesday, but due to the exciting weekend ahead I wont be squatting sunday. Didn't want to miss out on grinding out another 5x3. And it was a bit of a grind this week, what with running and thai boxing and still being sore from deads. But I made them all so im pleased. Depth may have been questionable on a few, and a couple of last reps I began to fold on. Still pleased though.

20kg: 5
30kg: 5
40kg: 3
50kg: 3
55kg: 5 x 3

Close grip benching. Really trying to keep elbows in.
Warmup with 20 kg on incline bench
32.5 kg 5x5 - felt easy this week. Really weird on the last set, felt like the fourth was a struggle, but then had a pause at the top and a deep breath and the last rep flew up. Maybe I need to be thinking more about my breathing, im suspecting i may be holding my breath a little to long when repping!!

Wide grip pulls

Great new abs exercise off assisted chin machine seat (too difficult to explain though)

Saturday - resting, eating, generally having a champion time with the Edinburgh Strength Crew Grin

Sunday - Some yoke walk stuff with 100 kg. Working at getting 120 kg stable, but didnt walk with it. Didnt do my back any good whatsoever. I may be leaving strongman to the edinburgh experts Kathryn, Jonothon and Buzz

Was going to squat but for several reasons ended up sat on my backside stuffing my face all day instead. Well rested for next week now!

Monday - 45 mins run with another 30 mins walking. Felt hard as hell. Taking an unplanned day off work today. Nice to have leave and be caught up enough to do that kind of thing!

Tuesday

Thai Boxing

Benching
20 kg and 30 kg warm-up
40 kg: 1
42.5 kg: 4 singles then another rep which had to be partially assisted because i lost my form. Strength was there for another though Roll-Eyes
40 kg: 2, 2, 2, 2, 3 These felt really easy. Grin

Military press: Some messing about then 5 x 3 - strict pressing is bloody hard after push pressing for a few weeks.

Ab pull downs 35 kg: 8, 8, 8, 8

Deadlift day:

10 mins CV warm up
60 kg: 5
80 kg: 1
100 kg: 1
110 kg: 5 singles Grin
80 kg formwork - all complete crap. Just can't get them glutes to fire Roll-Eyes

Leg press - just a couple of sets with 106 and 97 kg - legs felt tired, didn't want to over do it after deads.

CV 20 mins L14 random. This random program is pretty cool - it is far more intresting than manual setting and i burnt way more calories (291 in 20 mins)
