I sometimes do 500m sprints for a bit of conditioning. Average time is about 1.40. Best 1.30

I done 6:51 a few years back for 2000ms.

I read somewhere the other day that Steve Backley (olympic javelin thrower) does the national indoor rowing champs and has cloced 6:27, pretty damn good for someone whos sport entails a split seconds worth of effort.

Explosive power is extremely useful for rowing, its classed as a power endurance sport. Redgrave was even asked to join the british bobsleigh team because of the power he could generate when he tried it out. For a long limbed endurance athlete he still had a 120kg bench.

Rowed at school and was captain at Durham Uni. Depressing thing was my best time as a lightweight (~69kg) was 6:26 and i was 3rd/4th in the lightweight squad with that! Had some crazy good guys! The big heavyweights were just depressing! Unhappy

Ah right, Durham usually attracts a lot of good guys. Tried doing lightweight but decided it was pointless. Amazing fast times for a lightweight though, you obviously started young enough, I started at 19.

Dunno about amazing, there's a lad younger than me who's still training now who's doing 6:08 as a lighty. Crazy stuff!

Also did an indoor comp when I was 16, did 6:36 and came fourth. Second was 6:34, third 6:34.8. Winner was a dutch lad who did 6:12 and pulled a tongue as his picture was being taken with 500 to go! Crazy mofo, he's done 5:58 since at 75kg.

Sub 6 for a lwt is world record standard. Very high standard, I went to edinburgh where the mens team was naff but the womens was very good.
