Traffic bad and very cold, not many in tonight

Bench, raw, all kilos

20 x 20
20 x 20
20 x 20
20 x 20
70 x 5
70 x 5
70 x 5
110 x 3
120 x 2
130 x 1
shrit on, thanks Aaron
150 x 2 one to three boards and one to two
160 x 1 to one board
170 x 1 to chest
180 x Bollox ! Flew off the chest and got lost somewhere near the top
170 x F Phucked if I know what happened

What a complete shambles. Rubbish, pure and simple, maybe, just maybe I can get all the phuckups out of the weay before the comp. Don't put money on it though. If I offered to buy a load of benchpressers a round of drinks they would probably refuse and after tonight, I would not blame them.

It being Wednesday, I did wednesday things, young Steph was the victim tonight, she doesn't care about benching, which is probably just as well tonight.

Cold, very vold, very, very cold.

Deadlift, raw, all weights in kilos

60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
100 x 5
140 x 5
180 x 3
220 x 3
230 x 3
240 x 3
220 x 3
220 x 3
220 x 3
220 x 3

we had intended just going up to 240 tonight as it is the last deadlift before the comp a week on Sunday, the last couple of 220s were slight experimants with a belt, generally it worked and I may wear one in the comp. Generally I don't bother but I might, just for a change, as there is nothing to lose and maybe something to gain. The hand is looking very well now, slight drawback is that where the horrible, manky seg was, there is now fresh, new, virgin skin, and there's the rub. It's too fresh and too new and it's sore as hell. I wore a strap on all after the first 220 to protect it. Next Sunday should be ok as the deadlift is the last lift and so you are pretty warm and so can get a way with singles only on the day. It should be able to handle, but from then on, I have the pleasure of forming a brand new seg. As I drove home it was already in the minuses temperature wise, so as I was passing Tesco I called in to do a shop so it would be one less thing to do tomorrow, when it's icy out, and they have forecast light snow for tomorrow morning, it's no bad idea to leave the car at home. I believe racing from Newcastle is already a goner, but Newbury and Kempton should save the day. It's the 18th anniversary of my finest hour on the gambling front tomorrow, eighteen years ago tomorrow I backed Sibton Abbey at 100 to 1 to win the Hennessey and it did. He's probably glue now, but as long as there's me, he will never be forgotten

Sunday, 28th November, start 13:10

Tyre pressures had to be adjusted because of the cold weather, hence the later than usual start

Cold, very cold, Adders thermometer shows +1

Bench, raw, just me and Joe, all weights in kilos

20 x 20
20 x 20
20 x 20
all paused now
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
80 x 5
100 x 1
100 x 1
110 x 1
110 x 1
120 x 1
120 x 1
130 x 1
130 x 1
140 x 1
140 x 1
145 x 1
145 x 1
no pauses now
120 x 5
100 x 5
60 x 5
20 x 10

The last four sets were done with only a few seconds rest between them, I reckon this was Joe's lazy way of stripping the bar, still it was fun. 145 is quite heavier than I have done raw in a while and they weren't overly heavy. Off to the White Bear for some nosebag and parsiflage, then to our kids for a very fine and plentiful tea and to boail a shirt, then home with a carry of the finest pea and ham soup this side of anywhere. So that tomorrow's tea sorted. The one negatibve is that it's minus chuffin four right now.

Oh yes. Alan has worked out a series of weights he wants and I have to turn up and try to do them. Quite modest, nothing to write home about, but as always the aim is to get all nine lifts passed. So far that has eluded me. A 750 total will do very nicely at this stage. As always the British, in April is the main target. That matters.

Cold tonight, very cold again, adders thermometer says +2 and that is with a full house and the fire on.

Comp Sunday, so an easy one tonight, Alan wants three singles, around 500 lbs, but make 'em snappy.

New suit, no wraps, straps up, all kilos

60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
100 x 5
140 x 5
180 x 3
wraps on
220 x 1
225 x 1
230 x 1

Loverly Jubbly as DelBoy used to say, all, good and crisp and snappy. Rest and food now, a little light benching on the wednesday and then rest and food, well a bit of jiggy-jig and then rest and food. physio tomorrow which should be fun. Fed up with this chuffin cold though. No snow as yet and don't soddin' want any. but hell it's cold. As cold as a blonde's heart as Damyon Runyon used to say

Wednesday 1st December, start 17:00

Cold, very cold, and snowing, Adders thermometer is at +2

Not many in tonight, but I have braved the cold and sleet and snow because in a last act of desparation I had the old shirt boiled in sugar of twenty of your earth minutes on Sunday, today we try it on. DrRick has also braved the elements to assist, he also has murderers' gloves.
I pause here to look at that apostrophe, I'll leave it where I is as they are not the gloves of one specific murder, but of murderers in general. Someone kind will tell me.
I digress

Bench, raw, all kilograms

20 x 20
20 x 20
20 x 20
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
100 x 3
110 x 2
120 x 2
130 x 1
DrRick + murderers's gloves = Fat Pete + boiled shirt
150 x 2 one to three blocks and one to two
160 x 1 to one block
170 x 1 to chest

This didn't actually touch the chest, but it wasn't far off, just a smidge away and it flew up, no pressing at all which off the hands is encouraging. We leave it there as we desire neither to tire the shirt nor me. The shirt is tight, horribly or splendidly so, depending on how you view these things. It hasn't got long left, but it will do for Sunday, then it will probably be buried with full military honours. Many, many thanks to DrRick and Handsome Jeff, without whom all this would not have been possible.
Normally I would be off to the home of the tubular bandage tonight, but girls numbers one and two are awol due to the weather (it is always worse in Oldham than the surrounding area) but there is a lithe, supple and very spritey young lass, who is always worth a visit, and she's made it in. Luckily I have my sensible head on, a ten mile drive home or a fifty mile round trip to Oldham, and while the time spent there would be a delight, I may not be able to find my car when I came out.
Common sense prevails, I wipe a tear from my eye, and with a shrug of the shoulders, make a courtesy call to tell them I will not make it this evening, and head home.

Sunday, 5th December, the North West powerlifting championship at Colne.

It s a forty mile trip to Colne but I have to pick up Aaron (who doesn't drive) and that adds seventeen miles and half an hour to the journey. Up early for breakfasts and out at eight, pick Aaron up at eight thirty and arrive at nine thirty. It's cold and Joe the terrible has taken the squat racks from Adders to Colne so we now have a racks in option in the warm up room. 26 lifters, so two flights, one of twelve and fourteen in the other, lifting back to back. They start at eleven fifteen, we started at twelve twentyish and so forth. Tom Martin is in the first group so I will get to see almost none of his lifts, which is a shame. Phil the Behemoth is with us, which is a pleasure and so is Turner, which is not quite so.

Squat.

First attempt - 270 and was quite good. Passed two to one, not bad, felt for it a bit, but it passed

Second attempt - 280 - fail, stood up with it ok, but didn't dig, got to the dig position and then didn't, just stood. They were right to fail it and no-one to blame only me.

Third attempt - 280 - pass - three whites, very nice, smooth and dug as per the instructions. Best one of the three

Bench.

The shirt has been boiled and sugared within an inch of it's life, it's tight and hacking through the triceps like Blashford - Snell in a jungle.

Attempt one - 170 - pass. Bit hesitant on the descent (Blashford-Snell and that damned machette) took me a little by surprise, and never felt the touch, but to lockout in one movement

Attempt two - 175 - pass - nice, smooth to chest and again straight to lockout in one movement, easier than the first

Attempt three - 180 - fail - as the 175 initially but just drifted off line near the top. My fault entirely.

The shirt will be retired now, burried with full military honours. She was a good 'un in her day, but she's past it now
