Because it worked for me.
Unlike some of the other guys posting, I'm not merely hypothesizing.

I suppose it has the advantage over double overhand that you can handle more weight, perhaps that is why you got good results

I talk myself in to hook grip every so often, but then my hands are so beat up for days it seems to defeat the purpose, however I gues I need to just stick with it for a longer period of time

i hate using straps for deads as it takes a bit to get strapped in and f**ks up the entire set up of " nose tork, scream, grip and rip" that I have going.

Partly because the bicep as I have had some issue with my left arm but mainly because my grip is never an issue when deadlifting and also I would rather save my grip for the important stuff as a strongman (events). If you are doing lot's of arm over arm, farmers, axle etc your grip will get tonnes of work! also sometimes at event training I will do some specific grip work too.

If I was a pl I wouldn't use them personally as a strongman though I think it's okay to do so

Just to add, I tried to hook my thumb tonight ( it wasn't deadlift night, I just tried the grip on the bar ) and I definitely cannot reach, my fingers just about touch my thumb nail and can't lock it in place at all.
I'm guessing I must have short fingers, I'll ask the girlfriend later Wink

It's deadlift next session so I will do my normal deadlift routine and then do some double overhand work as heavy as I can, deads and shrugs.
The grip needs to improve, no doubt about that.

Thanks again to all who posted.

And how are you addressing the plateau you've created for your grip strength?

he actually said its a more complicated procedure because the hernia is so small, so if i make it any bigger the operation will be less complicated and more likely to be a success! =]

Was it a doctor you spoke to about it?

"You've got a hernia so if you go away and train heavy thus making the hernia bigger it will make our life easier"

Am I close?

No he didnt speak about training regarding the hernia thats jusy my logic

what he said was along the lines of 'it is a very small hernia but will need an operation, with it being so small it is quite a complicated operation as things could get stuck inside'

or along those lines, the reason im still training is because before i knew it was a hernia it never gave me any trouble it was just a lump
