Yes I agree, after double ply it's getting a bit silly, but when people just slag off equipment over and over it just gets tiring, just like hitching deadlifts.

My shirt has been a godsend for me. I've always had shoulder problems when benching, and since doing the majority of my benching in a shirt, they've disappeared. Years and years of shoulder problems. Interestingly I think they were originally advertised as something to help with shoulder problems?

OK - fair enough.

Impressive lifts by the way. Your back is a lot stronger than mine, and I'm 20Kg heavier than you. I'm just a pansy strongman competitor - who, on occasions, requires the use of a hitch! Grin

You could have asked me or Fatpete about shirts. We're both using them at the moment. PM me if you want some sensible advice without having to start a thread about it that will inevitably turn to rat s**t.

Being anti-bench doesn't make me evil Grin

I've just had a quick look at bodybuilding.com out of curiosity and saw the thread "how much do you curl?". Not the forum for me thanks!! Grin

No, being anti-bench, anti-curl, anti-belt, anti-suits, anti-shorts, etc, etc simply makes you less of strongman competitor than you could be.

The problem is that sugden has a general bulls**t section not a powerlifting/strongman section. At BB.com, there is a special trolling section that your daughters should never see and a powerlifting/strongman section. Occasionally you do get the kids spilling over onto the serious sections like as happened recently in the powerlifting/strongman section, where some kids and a mod were giving bad advice.

So we basically agree then? Having a general bulls**t section here is fine, but if you post something in it, your replies will most likely be 'general bulls**t' replies. I like the powerlifting section over there, there's a few good lifters and enough of them to get a quick reply. I prefer it to the powerlifting section over at t-nation, which generally suffers from all the same problems. The internet generally suffers from all the same problems...

It's not just how tight you have a bench shirt, but how it fits.

Here a clip of Daiki Kodama - IPF WR (281kg@ 75kg bwt) putting on his shirt

Bigger lifters tend to get a lot more out of shirts than smaller (and skinnier) lifters. 37.5kg is not bad out of a shirt at your sort of bwt - I'd guess Rob Palmer at your weight probably only gets around 40-45kg at your weight and is a lot stockier.

If you are interested in trying a super kat we have a brand new unused 42 that I'm sure we could do a good deal on.

I definitely appreciate that tighter is not always better, and I'm happy with how I'm getting on with my current shirt, but at the same time I'm turning into a bit of a gear whore... The thing is, it's hard to know if my shirt is the right one for me when I've only ever worn one shirt! Curiousity is perhaps getting the best of me, but trying new things out is surely not a bad thing, even if the conclusion is that I'm best with what I have already. It's hard to ignore that so many people switched from the F6 to a katana and found it to be a better shirt, but there's also a few people such as Jim and Bryn who consider the F6 to be a more appropriate shirt, I think the only way to settle it will be to try one and see...

I'll send you a PM about the Super Katana then I can get it out of my system.

I took a chance and splashed out for an Inzer Fusion recently and instantly pulled a 10kg pb my first session in it, after using a Centurion before, so who knows.

It's an extreme way of adding kilos to your bench.
You need several people to help you get into the things. You can't necessarily get the bar down to the chest once it's on. There is added danger, due to the increased poundages and reduced control of the barbell. What a drama!
You're basically dressed in a catapult.
Press raw FFS!!!

Not necessarily. I can put on and take off my own shirt and I get 40 kilos+ out of it. As for the wider picture, yes I find that the banter spills over far more than it used to and Sugden's become less of a powerlifting forum and more of a strongman one. Maybe it's grown to the point where we need two separate forum sections? I know some powerlifters who don't bother posting any more and that's a shame. It would be good to see them back. As to why the thread was started, wtf??

Martin speaks the truth.

As to whether or not you should post this here to get good responses, post away! You are likely to have to sift through some s**t to get some good advice but you might just get what you're looking for from some of the more knowledgeable folks.
