Aaaahhh

im excited and nervous and everything inbetween

I'm doing bench and deadlift as there is no squat

(BDFPA South West Bench and Deadlift)

I've got

Singlet
Rugby Socks
Deadlift Slippers
Spare Clothes
Belt
Chalk
Smelling Salts
Talc
Towel
Food
Water Bottle or 2

Anything else you can think of?

What foods should i take?

what about openers, 2nd and third lifts?

my best paused bench is 120kg at the end of my last training session, i failed 125, but was after a heavy bench session last touch and go 1 rep max was 130kg 3 months ago

i was thinking 115, 125, 132.5 depending on second lift

My best deadlift was done 3 weeks ago, was 227.5kg wasnt easy but wasnt a grind

i was originally thinking 200 215 230

but then one of the instructirs said if it was him he would go 205 220 then depending on how that goes 232.5/235

But then im thinking i know i can get 230 so should i go 215, 230, 240??

any thoughts??

Personally I would be a bit more conservative, especially as it's your first comp. By the sounds of it you should still win your category comfortably and probably set records without going for huge PBs.

132.5 on the bench seems a big ask if your best paused one to date is 120 - you make it sound like theres more there but 12.5kg could prove a lot.

As for your deadlift, I think your original plan or your instructors plan is best. 240 sounds very optimistic even if you have done 500 and it wasn't all out.

Remember competition lifting is a different ball game - you won't know how it affects you personally until the day, some people thrive on it, others don't seem to do as well.

Whatever your choices, best wishes and enjoy the day. Is it this weekend?

with the lifts why not

opener = pedestrian
second = challengeing
third = PB go for broke.

it would be a shame for you to bomb on your first comp. why not get 2 bankable lifts and save the crazy stuff for the last lift.

Good luck, Sivvy. You'll also need a cotton teeshirt to wear under the singlet for the bench (round neck, sleeve half way between shoulder and elbow, preferably plain). I'd normally advocate opening with what you could double on your last training session, but as it's your first comp, I'd suggest opening with the max weight you can do a triple with. Remember the first lift is to register a good lift in the comp - you've still got two more to push the boat out with. Rob's right. You don't know yet if comps give you more or less than in the gym. Don't open too heavy and get a nasty surprise.

You didn't mention trainers, and you can wear wrist straps and still be unequipped if you want to.

martin, doesnt matter what trainers i wear does it??

i was going to wear a t-shirt underneath anyway

another thing i found out today is you can fail a lift by stepping over the bar

single lift world records are 100kg for bench and nothing has been submitted for the deadlift, but the standard is 192.5 i believe so i think i will have to lift more than that to get the record

can anyone confirm this, its the single lift's though, not the full power

I think BDFPA still have a 4th lift rule. BWLA (IPF) don't anymore.

sivvy mate the records sometimes aren't updated as soon as they should be, also you need three national refs to confirm a record. all info regarding apparell is on the wdfpa site. good luck don't worry too much about records, get your form right and enjoy yourself. its your first comp you don't need any extra worries just liftHappy p.s and don't worry about fourth lifts, threes plenty

Any trainers, mate, as long as they're clean! You can't set a world record at a regional comp in BDFPA, but you can set a British one provided you've been a member for at least 3 months and the referees are suitably qualified. You can get a fourth lift in BDFPA to break a record, including a divisional record at a divisional event. That's assuming your third lift was successful! No fourth attempts in BWLA/IPF since January 2007.
