Thanks mate!! Tongue

My shoulder is fine actually (ibuprofen really works!) but my back is not good at all. I've had the same (or similar) before and it's previously gone away by itself after a bit of rest but it's showing no signs of doing so at the moment. I'm actually wondering whether I'm even going to make the British at the moment. Unhappy Even if it's recovered within, say, 4 weeks, I don't really fancy trying to peak for a competition in 3 weeks having done no squats or deadlifts for ages. I just wouldn't have the motivation for it. Got a physio appointment booked for Wednesday.

Don't say it pal! Rest and rest. Take it easy, keep the engine ticking over and you'll still be good. May not gain any strength over next few weeks but you can keep what you got?

Am sure you'll do you best pal. Put your feet up when you can!

Yeah, but who wants to just lift what they lifted last competition? Right now I'm hoping I can start some lower body training again around the end of next week...

On the upside I benched a PB 140 on Thursday, and was pretty sure I would have had 142.5 if the moron spotter hadn't yanked the bar off me because it looked like it was hard. No time to write it up now, got the new Harry Potter to read...

I'm sure lifters like Clive Henry and Jim Blanchflower (just to name a few) don't go to every competition they do expecting to do better than they did in their last one.

Competitions aren't just about setting PBs, they are about doing what you can on the day and the experience - and in your case, competing in a nationals is going to do you the world of good whether or not you can beat your squat and deadlifts PBs.

Very nice work on the benching.

On the Jim and Clive Henry - this is true, but it depends at what stage of your lifting career you're at. At my age and experience I should be making steady progress every time really. I agree with you on the fact that it's a national championship though - but it'd still be hard lifting at less than my top level.

Back was crap so no squats:

Bench Press
60x3, 80x3, 100x3, 115x3, 125x1, 132.5x1, 140x1, 140x1 PB, 142.5x??

It was supposed to be 132.5 for singles but the first was so easy I decided to go for a PB. Made the foolish error on 140 of telling the spotter that (unlike on 132.5 where I just needed a hand-off), I "might" need help on this rep. As I ought to have known, to him this meant "Please lift it with me." He didn't do much but when I asked "did you help?" he said "No, just my fingers on the bar". So he helped. So I had to take 140 again, was very precise in my instructions and got it without much trouble. Should have been just as insistent on the 142.5, because just as the bar slowed down the t**t yanked it clean off me. It was hard, but I'd got past my usual sticking point and I felt I was going to get it.

Machine Row
127.5x12x3

Pulldown (supinated)
105x12x2

20/7/07 (Think I'm getting these dates wrong.. this was Friday anyway)

OH Press
50x3, 60x3, 70x2, 77.5x1x3

And that was that. Everything else I would have done (power cleans, stiff-legged deads, ab pulldowns) has to wait.

Did 16 lengths of the pool and would have done more but for some reason the water was tropically hot and I couldn't bear it any longer.

Bench Press
60x3, 80x3, 100x2x10

Very good, nice and fast. Liking this speed work at the moment.

DB OH Press
37.5sx3x3

Pull-up
+35x3x3, BWx22

Physio tomorrow (24th) - trying not to be too optimistic but I'm hoping to do stiff-legged deads on Friday and squat on Sunday. If I don't get back on track by the end of this week I don't see any decent lifts going up at the British.

Great benching, particulary to do a pb 2 twice and then get a new pb (ish)!

Three cheers to people that think benching is a team sport!

Hip Hip, f**k off!!!

I would love to but:

1. It's a very long way from where I live.
2. I don't drive.
3. From what I gather, people seem to generally train there when I'm at work.
