Well, if all those footballers and rugby players went down to a track and actually did it, often with video of them doing it, I would agree with you.

I like this thread.

How many at under 80kg...?

I'd be very interested in that.

I'm sure Shane has probably done it, off the top of my head I can't think of many more. Are there any LW power lifters in the UK pulling 300 plus at sub 80 (83kg to allow for that weight class..)?

Two of my occasional gym partners pull 300+ no hitch or straps. One of them was at the GBPF NM the other weekend.

I'm possibly at odds with the younger generations, but, much as I like to watch people's training videos, IMO it doesn't really count if you can't do it in comp. Take Pat Mendes, best junior in the world on YouTube, but in comp..

To be honest, I quite agree with you...but since outside of Strongman there don't tend to be strapped, hitched deadlift contests then I think that's the best we're going to do.

Paul Cooper (74kg type of fellow) pulled a powerlifting 300kg a couple of weeks back

Great pull.

I've never seen a sub 83 guy pull 300 in the flesh. Off the top of my head, in the 10 plus years that I spent in gyms and powerlifting clubs, I've only met 2 blokes in the (now old) 82.5 class pull 270-280. 300 is pretty special for sure.

In fact, I lie.

I saw Tom Martin pull 350kg at the GBPF British Universities comp in 2010 when it was held in Oxfordshire. Probably the most impressive sporting achievement I've witnessed in the flesh:

I believe he was 82kg. Great lift.

It was the 82.5 class back then, can't remember exactly what I weighed but probably a little under 82.

I pulled 300 in my first comp unequipped at 78 point something. 330 unequipped in the gym at 82 ish around the time I did that 350
