I don`t train to compete .. I train because I enjoy training and I enjoy training because I lift heavy ..

In the past 8 weeks ive deadlifted twice a week every week and my top weight has been over 300kg every time . I`ve probably done 50+ 300kg deadlifts ..

WHY ?? because I don't want to train light ? That's not what my hobby is ..

Anybody feel the same or am I out here alone .. ? I just don`t get it .

I agree mate, but I've found that lifting near my max all the time burns me out and I can't progress. I guess I've just finally decided that the enjoyment I get from lifting heavy isn't as good as the enjoyment I get from getting stronger and progressing.

I just wish I could lift heavy mark!!

like the idea of 5x5 but I like thing like the 5/3/1 plan and currently like the cube method as these seem to work for me!!

I would have thought the closer you are to your 'genetic potential' the more you could hit higher % with higher frequency. For example- You see early intermediate lifters such as myself that can't touch 'heavy' for more then a few weeks without crashing and burning. Then look up various lifters that are enhanced or not, but with time under the bar... AAALLLlways hitting savage weight.

If you cannot read this I do not apologise. my Englund is out my ass today.

Well its always controversial when someone trains different to how all the best guys in a sport train .. I`m certainly no role model

I`m progressing nicely in my 21st year of lifting so it works for me and I stand by my original statement . Its all down to enjoyment .

X2 to pretty much all of this (sadly i cant agree with the 300+ 50 times, ive probably only moved it about 10 times in the same period).

Lifting heavy is great fun, and i find hitting a PB double or triple to be far more enjoyable than hitting a new 5 x 5 rep pb.

If i stopped making progress with such training i dont know if id switch to lighter weights or stop competing altogether.

I don't mind both. volume did great further out last time.
but I love the lower volume high intensity triples/doubles at moment.

it's doing excessive psyching and heightened arousal around max attempts that make it hard to me recover.
a 'training max' that's still a massive effort, but just walking up to bar can be done day in day out.

This is inline with what a few of the more knowledgeable guys on here have been saying for a long time.

I think its AMH_Power who has posted a few times the sorts of volume you need to experience to force good adaptation to stress.

I want to say something in the region of 60 lifts a week @ 70% IIRC?

So for me basically squatting twice per week I would do a brutal 6x6 workout and a less brutal 5x5 later on to hit the volume. If you squat 3x per week you can split that up a bit more.

The methodology needs tailoring to everybody.
I lose interest quickly when somebody says Routine A or B are the best or most productive.

Everything from your body frame, age, muscle fibers and sleep pattern hugely affect recovery and ability. You do need to find your own way. Beginners will obviously try a variety of different programs and may end up disappointed with loads but you learn your own body.

I work better with volume and low rest periods. My short squatty power-lifting friend does doubles and triples all the way. I'm inclined to go with Misha's way of training.

I WISH I could train like you Mr Clogg.
